Introduction
Creepy Dog Names in Pop Culture
Beast may seem like a creepy name for a creepy dog, but in this case, Beast is an adorable Puli owned by none other than Mark Zuckerberg. Yep, the creator of Facebook has his own mop dog that he named Beast, and honestly, he kind of looks a bit beastly sometimes on Facebook photos. However, this Beast has nothing but pure gentleness and love in his heart as he cuddles with his “mom” Priscilla or nestles next to “daddy” Mark on the couch. This dog with dreadlocks has over two million followers on Facebook and is the most famous Puli on the planet.
The Zuckerbergs got Beast as a puppy in 2011, and they live in Palo Alto, California with Beast’s human baby brother, Max, and sister, August. Beast is very protective of Max and August and has been photographed many times watching over them. The Puli pooch is almost as proud of the little tikes as their parents are. The only time you can really see the beasty side of Beast is when he is herding sheep. To keep the sheep in line, Beast has to pretend to be mean and scary or else the herd will just run right by him.
As a Hungarian sheepdog, it is important for Pulis to get a good workout every day and if they can get a chance to herd some sheep, that is even better. Zuckerberg has not said why he named this adorable mop dog Beast and claims he got him because he was the cutest and most awesome dog he has ever seen. When he was a puppy, he sure did not look like any kind of beast. He just looked like a little ball of white fur. So, why do we sometimes give our dogs odd names that do not seem to fit them? Who knows? But it happens all the time.
There are some other famous creepy-named dogs such as Devil, who was the Phantom’s German Shepherd in The Phantom movie and comic strip. And then there is Fang, the Neapolitan Mastiff from the Harry Potter series. Fang was also the name of the mixed breed pup from the movie Vampire Dog. And who can forget that horrifying Saint Bernard, Cujo, from Stephen King’s horror film by the same name? So, although you may name your dog something creepy, that does not necessarily mean your dog is creepy. Unless you forget to get your dog their rabies shot. Then you may have a problem.
Creepy Dog Name Considerations
So, why give your dog a creepy name? Is your pooch all black with scary looking dark eyes? Maybe your little buddy acts creepy, or you are just really into creepy things. Some people think of names for their dog before they even choose the dog, and then they try to find a dog to match the name they want. While that is an interesting way to select a dog, it may not be the best way to choose your new best friend. However, humans almost always choose their children’s names before giving birth, so it may not be all that strange.
For some reason, we tend to think of the Doberman, German Shepherd, Rottweiler, Akita, and Pit Bull when we think of scary dogs. This may be due to their reputation, size, or media coverage. However, if you look up Creepy Dog Breeds, the number one choice is the Puli, like the Zuckerberg dog, Beast. Maybe they do look pretty creepy with those long cords all over them, but they are adorable and sweet dogs. Some of the breeds you actually may want to be wary of are the little ones like the Chihuahua or the Dachshund because they are known to be a little snappy. No matter what your reason is for giving your dog a creepy name, remember that you and everyone else who talks to your dog will be saying it for many years so choose carefully.
