Introduction
Cuba Dog Names in Pop Culture
Chiquitica, a scrawny, wiry-haired Cuban dog survived a harrowing trip across the Florida Straits. All she had to go on was a makeshift boat with 12 migrants. The dog made headlines all over the world, especially in Argentina, England, and her native Cuba, where she was praised and loved. Her following was massive. And it all really started with that trip. The boat she was on made landfall on Miami Beach in September of 2015.
Chiquitica went through a quarantine period in which the vets inspected her, vaccinated her for just about everything possible, and then registered the dog. She was then allowed to stay with the family of one of the Cuban migrants with which she traveled aboard the boat.
When asked about the trip details, the migrants explained that the men aboard were ranging in age, from 16 to 34. There was only one teenage girl with them. They touched down near the busy Lincoln Road around 11 in the morning, in front of dozens of beachgoers, and the famous hotels Ritz-Carlton, Delano, and Surfcomber.
The crowd gathered around to watch them land cheered them on, shouting words of encouragement and acceptance. They had been at sea for six whole days. They had fled from Caibarien, in the province of Villa Clara. Their only vessel, a precarious metal boat nine feet in length, powered by wooden rows and a stitched-together sail. When asked about the dog, they explained they hadn't known her prior to the trip. Not one was her rightful owner until they landed and one of them got to keep her.
But unfortunately, this isn't a happy story. Not all stories get that happily ever after ending, because, well that's just not real life. To everyone's dismay, Chiquitica didn't live long in the United States – just a few short weeks. She escaped her home in early October 2015, and got run over by a car. She became yet another victim of Miami's busy streets and inattentive drivers.
Chiquitica was a dog looking for a better life, much like her human boat partners. She had gotten in the boat on a whim, because the opportunity presented itself, and she'd made it across a tremulous ocean. She'd lived the good life for a few weeks, in a new home with a caring and loving family.
But one mistake, one accident was enough to take down this adventurous dog. So, remember: keep your dog on a leash when going outside, and always pay attention while driving. You never know what gentle soul will dart out unexpectedly.
Cuba Dog Name Considerations
Naming your new buddy can be a challenging process. It involves gathering as much information on the dog as possible, and then researching a variety of names that stand out to you. Which of them relate to the dog? Which of these names really reflect who the dog is, and what they like to do? Some even describe their favorite types of toys or treats.
Then there are other factors, such as the dog's breed, appearance, personality and mannerisms. In essence, anything that describes the dog in detail can be used as inspiration for a solid name choice.
It can be a bit overwhelming, but if you're positive you want to choose a name that truly celebrates who your dog is, it's worth the effort. And there are many ways to make the process simpler.
For instance, you're currently looking for Chilean dog names. That's a niche subject, and certainly one that you've focused on after thinking about what types of names you'd like to look into. Keep doing this, keep thinking of the topics or niches that really speak to you. Then look for names within those categories. When you come across a name with potential, add it to a list.
