Dakar Dog Names In Pop Culture
Lac Rose is a saltwater lake that is located 18 miles from downtown Dakar. The lake gets its name from the rosy color brought on by the high content of salt within its shores. Rose is also the name of a dog who caught the attention of an animal group who sought to rescue her from death row. Rose had been in lock-up for four years after allegedly biting someone. A Pit Bull, Rose has spent the time alone in a small space with a metal bowl for a companion. According to Jamie Lambo, an animal activist that is part of a group called Justice for Rose, “the dog is the one who is suffering. The poor thing is by herself and she walks around with her little metal bowl in her mouth and all she gets for attention is seeing people from a distance.”
The group has created a Facebook page in an effort to let the public know about the situation. In April, 2014, Rose got loose and became involved in an incident with two neighbors. Animal control officers took her and brought her to the pound, where she has been ever since. Though Rose was ordered to be put down, her owner appealed the decisions, which has resulted to her being in lock-up. A rescue in New York state has offered to take Rose; they are looking to train her and care for her and are willing to take full responsibility for her. Lambo is hoping that the city will take another look at the case and that Rose will get another chance. Lambo stated, “we can get the city to look and say, ‘listen, maybe we should give her a second chance’. Let’s look at this again. If we have a rescue out of state that will remove the dog from the state”.
Another canine named Rose received attention when adopted from a shelter in Detroit as a puppy. The dog was adopted by a police officer and named Rose, in honor of Wayne State Police Sgt. Collin Rose, who was shot in the line of duty while investigating possible thefts of navigation systems from cars. The puppy will go into training to become a narcotics dog. Not only is her new dad a police officer, but she also has a new big brother who is a police dog, who immediately began showing her the ropes.
Dakar Dog Name Considerations
It can be difficult to choose a name for your new canine pal; it is understandable that you want to take the decision seriously. After all, you will be calling your dog by the name that you choose for years to come; it makes sense that you want to feel good about the name that you decide upon.
If a name that has meaning is important to you, it can help to come up with ideas from a place that you care about. Take the city of Dakar, for example. With over a million residents, Senegal’s capital city has much to offer. Those who love the beach can choose to name their new pal Madeleine, in honor of an offshore beach in the city. Someone who enjoys football can consider the names of a number of football players from the city, to include Abdoulaye Diagne-Faye, a former player born in Dakar and Bouna Coundoul, who played on Senegal’s National team. Even though some of the names may be long, nicknames are easily found. Abdoulaye Diagne-Faye can be shortened to Faye or Abdoul, for instance.
