Dog Names Ending in pu

Because the combination of "pu" as a vowel and consonant is quite unique, you may have second thoughts about using it as a dog name. If you can find another dog in pop culture, a book, film, movie, or anywhere else that shares the name, you may be more likely to use it.

It’s still a unique name, but not one that’s so “out there” that no one else has used it. Ali Appu, Pappu and Napu could fit the bill nicely.

Ali Appu is the name of a stray dog that lived in a Kerala Village. He had lived there since 2009, guarding the houses and people in the area. He was gentle, loving, and also appeared in funerals and weddings across the village in Kozhikode.

Someone in the village gave him the name of Ali Appu, and he was everyone’s beloved guardian. He would follow the kids to Madrassa in the morning and would inform the locals when strangers came to the area. He wasn’t a dog any one person owned, but everyone owned him.

In 2017, the entire village went into mourning. An anti-socialist had killed Ali Appu and by doing so, had killed the village’s peace. The local vet hospital had tried to save him, but his injuries were too severe. Ali Appu’s death brought the villagers closer together with the sole purpose of finding his killer.

Another dog with a name ending in "pu" is Pappu. Pappu is a Pug that got to celebrate Day of the Dogs in Nepal. The Day of the Dogs is a celebratory occasion where dogs - stray and owned - are celebrated for being them.

Dogs receive a Tika, a red mark on their forehead, and are then given flower garlands and food. The day is part of a five-day Hindu festival of Tihar held every year. Pappu the Pug is one of the thousands who reaped the rewards of the day in their honor.

Finally, there’s Napu. Napu is John Huston’s dog, a polar explorer. Napu skijorers alongside Toby, his dog friend, out in the wilderness. Napu is the oldest dog of the team at seven years old, but he is strong.

He works hard every day, even if his sense of direction is a little lacking. John says that Napu always wants to pull, but he doesn’t know in which direction. He would prefer to make his own trail than stick with a well-beaten one.
