Dog Names Meaning Chance

In 1993, the American film classic, 'Incredible Journey' was released. The movie showcased the adventures of two dogs and a cat who become separated from their human family. The pets must make an arduous journey of thousands of miles to be reunited. The move was based on the book, "The Incredible Journey," written by Sheila Burnford. In the book, the lead dog was a Labrador Retriever, but in the movie, the role of Chance is played by an American Bulldog.  The actor Michael J. Fox narrates the entire film and plays the part of Chance. The whole movie is shown through the dog's eyes. 

Chance is a young dog who was abandoned at a local dog pound. He has a difficult time trusting because of his past. His life as a shelter dog undoubtedly gave the young canine insecurities. A young boy named Jamie adopts the lonely pup. The American Bulldog gets a second chance to have a family and is bestowed with the name 'Chance.' 

The family owns other pets that Chance tries to befriend. There is an old Golden Retriever named Shadow and a Himalayan cat called Sassy. Unfortunately, they are both less than thrilled about sharing their lives with Chance who's young dog antics often annoy the duo. 

After Chance starts to adjust to his new life, his owners are all of a sudden transferred to another state due to work. They leave the three pets with their friends who live on a ranch while they look for a new home. Unfortunately, the dogs and cat become afraid that they have been abandoned. Shadow cannot accept the fact that his family has left him behind so he decides to head out across the mountains to find the family. Chance and Sassy decide to accompany him. 

Unfortunately, the mountains are a hard place to survive. Chance and Shadow try to find food but are unsuccessful. Poor Sassy falls into the river and almost drowns. During the journey, Chance encounters a porcupine who he tries to befriend but ends up getting a muzzle full of quills. 

Flyers have been put up that depict Chance, Shadow, and Sassy as lost. When some humans recognize the trio, they take them to the animal shelter and call their family. Unfortunately, Chance doesn't realize they are at the animal shelter to await their owners and instead panics. They escape the animal shelter and take off running. At the end of the film, the three animals make their way home despite many obstacles. Chance narrates how happy he is to be back with his beloved family.
