Dog Names Meaning Energy

Odie is a fictional canine cartoon character created by Jim Davis for the famous Garfield cartoon series. Odie is always bursting with energy, unlike his lazy feline housemate Garfield. Odie also has a happy outlook on life. He is always ready for an adventure. Odie is a regular in the Garfield comic strip and also appeared in the Garfield Show and the two feature Garfield films. 

Jim Davis has always depicted Odie as a yellow dog with brown ears that stand upright. He is rumored to be a Wire-Haired Dachshund and Terrier mix.  His large tongue is always hanging out of his mouth, and when he becomes excited, he tends to drool excessively. Odie's entire persona is that of an energetic, fun-loving pup who is always happy. 

Throughout the show, Odie and Garfield have a love/hate relationship. Besides being a dog and cat, the two share other differences. Odie is full of positive vibes and ready for fun, but Garfield is lazy and grumpy. Their character abstracts are what make the comic funny. Despite their diversity, the two manage to form a deep friendship. 

Odie is often depicted as lacking intelligence. In the cartoon, Garfield usually refers to Odie as a moron. However,  in many ways, it is just Odie's exuberance that makes Garfield think he lacks intelligence. In one episode, Odie is shown reading the novel War and Peace. In another segment, Odie is smoking a pipe while watching a television special on the life and music of Mozart. Another running gag throughout the comic is Odie's very long tongue. Garfield often hypothesizes that Odie's long tongue cannot possibly fit in his mouth so it must be stored within his brain which is why he lacks intelligence. 

Throughout the many storylines, Odie regularly annoys Garfield with his energetic and happy nature. In one episode, Garfield decides to pretend he is a tough kitty and kicks a large, strong Bulldog. Unfortunately, the Bulldog beats up Garfield, so the kitty ends up in a full body cast. The only part of his body exposed is his face. He cannot move, but Odie can run so he torments Garfield with his over exuberance and there is nothing Garfield can do about it because he cannot get up and leave. Finally, when Garfield is healed and has his cast removed, Jon asks the kitty if he would like to keep the cast as a memory. Garfield promptly turns to Odie and smacks the pooch with the plaster item to calm the happy dog down and to get even for his upbeat behavior.
