Dog Names Meaning Gentle

Honey means gentle sweetheart but, in this case, it means amazing savior because this Honey saved her human’s life. In August of 2005, Michael Bosch was all set to go to the local humane society in Marin and adopt a dog, but he had a heart attack and ended up waiting a bit longer to get a pup. He had planned on adopting one of the Labrador Retrievers that had been rescued from Hurricane Katrina, but when he went to the shelter in October, a different pooch grabbed his attention right away. 

The little golden Cocker Spaniel was floppy-eared and gangly-looking, but Michael was instantly attached to the little Spaniel because she looked so scared and he ended up taking her home. He named her Honey, and she followed him around everywhere he went. She was a snuggly little lap dog that loved to go anywhere that Michael went, so she also went with him in the car whenever he went anywhere and slept by his feet every night. 

One morning as Michael was going to run some errands, Honey jumped in the car, and they went to back out of the driveway when he was hit with a flash of sunlight and couldn’t see. Living on a mountain can be dangerous when you get too close to the edge, and that is what Michael had done. He and Honey both rolled down the ravine backward as the branches and trees tore up the vehicle. Michael had not even put on his seatbelt yet because he was still in the driveway. 

Michael was pinned by a giant tree branch and couldn’t get out, so he tried to call 911, but the call dropped since there is no service at the bottom of the ravine. Knowing that nobody would find him for days because his wife was out of town, Michael decided to let Honey go so she would at least be okay. He put her through a small hole in the window and told her to go home. 

Hours later, as Michael was falling asleep, he was jolted awake by a loud noise, He started yelling for help and heard his neighbor, Robin, yell back to him, telling him to stay calm and that she called 911. A helicopter came, and the rescue crew cut him out of the car and took him to the hospital. Michael had five broken ribs, muscle damage in his leg, and some internal bleeding but they got to him in time. But he had no idea where Honey was until he talked to Robin.

She told him that Honey had been waiting for her in the driveway when she came home from work and was barking and running in circles. Robin decided to bring her home, and when she and Honey got out of her car in Michael’s driveway, it was her car door slamming that jolted Michael awake, and Robin heard him yelling for help. If Honey had just gone home as Michael told her to, nobody would have found him in time. But she went to Robin’s and got help instead, saving Michael’s life.
