Dog Names Meaning Innocent

Marley was a yellow Labrador Retriever owned by John Grogan and his family. He soared to stardom as the main character in Grogan's autobiography, 'Marley & Me: Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog.' The New York Times bestseller spurred a blockbuster film also entitled 'Marley & Me' and a prequel film titled, 'Marley & Me: The Puppy Years.'  The book has also been rewritten into three different best sellers, 'Marley: A Dog Like No Other, Bad Dog: Marley!, and A Very Marley Christmas.' 

Although Marley passed away in 2003 at the age of 13, audiences still adore the pooch, and he lives on in the hearts of countless fans. Marley was a unique pooch. He was always in trouble and even expelled from obedience school. However, he had a heart of gold. All Marley had to do was look at Grogan and his wife with his large innocent eyes and all was forgiven. Marley just had a way of winning people over even when he was a naughty dog.

Grogan and his wife purchased Marley from a breeder for a discount price. The small exuberant puppy stood out from the rest. He climbed right up into their laps and started chewing on their fingers in sheer enthusiasm. From that moment on, Grogan knew that Marley was the perfect dog for them. However, Marley had distinct behavioral issues. He ate jewelry, stole underwear, and chewed through a couch, door frame, house door, metal crate, drywall, and many other household items on a regular basis. 

One thing was for sure throughout the dog's life, Marley loved Grogan and his wife. Not even a screen door would stop Marley if he saw his beloved humans. The happy dog would hurl himself through any door to reach them. Marley's innocent nature ensured that he only focused on his overflowing heart. He never seemed to realize he was a tad bit over exuberant or even bad. 

Overall, the book and movie focus on one concept and that is unconditional love. Undoubtedly, it is the unconditional love of an innocent dog and the forgiving adoration of his owners that tugs at the heartstrings of anyone who reads the books or watches the movies. 

When asked about Marley, Grogan states in an interview, " There’s a section toward the end of the book where I talk about how dogs love unconditionally and love you, flaws and all. We need to accept those (flaws) in our lives or it won’t work. Animals aren’t concerned with social class or status, they’re much more pure, heart to heart. A dog can teach us what matters most in life and what’s important in life if we open our heart and listen. Basic life lessons, loyalty and friendship, and guilelessness."
