Dog Names Meaning Warm

Historically, firehouse dogs have been Dalmatians but, recently, there is a pooch commanding center stage in one of New York City's main firehouses, and that is a stout Bulldog named Riggs. Riggs doesn't look like the typical firehouse canine, but people are falling love with the dog by the masses. Riggs even has his own Instagram account where the firemen post pictures of the robust canine. 

Riggs is the undisputed mascot of the .NY.C.'s Fire Factory Engine 58 Ladder 26. The men named the Bulldog the unusual name because the term 'rig' is commonly used to refer to their firetrucks. The canine's rather robust physique is also reminiscent of a very stout, full truck.  He is a muscular pooch that is built every bit as sturdy as the hot red firehouse engines. 

In the old days, the first firehouse dogs had a particular job. They would leap onto the wagon with the firemen and head to the site of the blaze. The dogs were used to calm the spooky horses who were pulling the fire wagons. Many horses would naturally become afraid at the site of flames and display agitation. The calm resolve of the firehouse Dalmatian quickly eased the spirits of the equines.  Later, when firefighters turned to gas-powered engines, the trusty firehouse dog would still frequently travel with the crew to the site of the blaze. When times started to change, the dog's firehouse duties also evolved. The pooch became a buddy solely to the crew. He was a warm head to pat and a wagging tail to offer solace. 

Nowadays, Riggs lives at the firehouse 24/7 where he is spoiled and adored by all members of the firehouse. His job is to bring much-needed smiles and entertainment to the firemen. Christopher Dawkins, who is Rigg's primary caretaker, says that the canine is everyone's “favorite person” at the firehouse. He is also often used in parades or other promotional functions where he rides proudly in the fire truck beside his fellow firefighters. The crowds adore Riggs, and he truly appeals to children who all want to pat his broad white head. 

Years ago, the New York City firehouse deviated away from the traditional Dalmatian when one of the crew brought in a Bulldog. Since that day, the firehouse only has Bulldogs as their mascot. Riggs spends his days playing fetch with the firemen and napping. He is a notorious napper who often sleeps right through fire alarms without even waking up.
