Introduction
Dog Names Meaning Wolf in Pop Culture
Zeus is a mid-content male wolf dog, which means he acts and looks similar to a wolf but also like a canine as well. He started living at the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary in October of 2015 when he was about four years old. He is a slow, quiet, and sort of shy wolf who is learning to feel comfortable at the sanctuary.
Even though he has been there for a few years, it can take several years to feel brave enough to fit in sometimes. It has also taken Zeus a lot of time to build up good relationships with the humans at Wild Spirit, but he has learned that having humans around can actually be a good thing sometimes.
Zeus lives with another mid-content wolf dog named Oni, and they are on the path set up for visitors to tour, so they get plenty of visitors. They are a nice couple. Zeus is an all-white male and Oni is a brown and gray female. Zeus has been neutered, and Oni is spayed, so they do not have any offspring of their own.
Zeus’ favorite things to do include chasing Oni around the yard, eating breakfast, and hanging out inside his den. He also enjoys running around with his favorite human caretaker, who he has learned to trust over the years. His dislikes include having to wait for breakfast and when Oni is a bully. Sometimes she will steal his food or take away his medball.
Zeus tries to hide in plain sight when his caretaker or another human brings in his medball or food. He will stand in the corner of his yard and pretend to be invisible until the caretaker gets right up to the fence. Then he runs and grabs the medball or food and runs away. He thinks he is being a good hunter when he does this.
Oni came to the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary about a month after Zeus, in November of 2015 and she was also approximately four years old. She is more outgoing and wilder than Zeus and is more of a bully than Zeus. In fact, she sometimes picks on him, but she is just playing. She still does not let the caretaker pet her, but she will follow them as they clean their enclosure and when they turn and see her, she will bow down and quickly run away. Then returns as soon as the caretaker turns around again. These two get along well and she has been living with him for quite some time.
Dog Name Meaning Wolf Considerations
Choosing a name for your dog is a fun job, but you also want to make sure that you find a name that really fits your cuddly canine companion. Many history books suggest that Native Americans had wolves as pets, but most of these animals are believed to have been part dog and part wolf. Some of these dogs, like the Hare Indian breed, was thought to be part coyote. So, maybe you want to give your dog a name that means wolf because you love wolves, really want your dog to feel like a wolf, or think your dog looks like a wolf.
There are certain breeds of dogs that are more similar to wolves than others. Some of these include the Siberian Husky, Alaskan Malamute, Northern Inuit, Tamaskan, and the Utonagan. Then there are the dog breeds that actually have the word wolf in their name such as the Black Russian Wolfhound Terrier, Czechoslovakian Wolfdog, Wolfhound, Giant Irish Wolf Schnauzer, Great Wolfhound, Irish Wolfhound, Irish Wolfoodle, Miniature Irish Wolf Schnauzer, Saarloos Wolfdog, Standard Irish Wolf Schnauzer, Tibetan Wolfhound, and the Wolfhound Dane. No matter what kind of dog you have and whether they look like a wolf, you get to choose the name, so it is up to you. We have given you a head start with some of the top dog names that mean wolf.
