Introduction
Dog Names That Start With J in Pop Culture
The most famous dogs in history are the ones who know how to teach people some extraordinarily valuable lessons. Lessons that can help mold a child, influence for success, or explain tougher concepts that parents may have a difficult time getting through.
And if we're talking about lessons, then no one beats Jock, the Scottish Terrier who appears in Lady and the Tramp. He was more than a moustache and furry eyebrows, or expressive eyes. He was a sweet and loyal dog that could be very aggressive when it came to protecting friends. Call it little dog syndrome, if you want, but Jock was not a pup to mess with. Affect his loved ones in any way, and he went from being a lovable charmer, to a territorial nutcase. It should come as no surprise – Jock's friends are family to him. He treats Lady as his own daughter, and watches her grow up. He even compliments her on her accomplishments, like getting her first collar. He teaches her how to welcome a new baby in the home, how to be a better dog, and how to treat friends. Lady really is who she is thanks to Jock the Scottish Terrier.
His best friend, of course, is his neighbor, Trusty. He also treats Trusty like family, like a brother, really. And like any brothers, they would do anything for each other, but also spend plenty of time bickering and clashing. Jock's aggression and Trusty's clumsiness made for some arguments here and there, but they would never be enough to break up two brothers. Both of them together were like Lady's family. They could be counted on for everything. If there's anything to learn, it’s how family is more than blood. Jock's ability to connect with other dogs to the point of family bonds is not something to underestimate, or blow off as just something else you see in the movies. It teaches children the power of human connection, and the ability to expand your family with the people whom you see fit.
More so, it teaches children the undeniable love that a dog is capable of. Dogs like Jock aren't just in the movies, they're found in every loving home. Puppies who grow up together, play together, bicker but love each other unconditionally. Even neighbor dog friends that get super excited when they see each other! The sooner children learn about a dog's ability to love, the better.
Dog Names that Start with J Considerations
When you're selecting a dog name, it's important to remember that there are plenty more options than human names. Rather than just focus on names like "John," or "Lucy," you can also dig around for silly names like "Taco" or "Sir Burps-A-Lot." There are more options, which although can be amazing to think about, can also be a little overwhelming. So many options! It really does help if you consider the dog's character first. Is he a serious doggy, or is he more excited about everything? Does he bark at absolutely nothing, or does he always strive to bark with intention? You may not always understand your dog, or speak the same language, but you can always tell what type of dog he is by just looking at their behavior. It can tell you if you have a more serious, calm dog, or a more jolly and active one. It can help you pinpoint what to expect from your dog moving forward too. If the dog is calm now, he's only going to get calmer and lazier with age. Active dogs tend to get calmer too, but they still have moments of energy like puppies do well into their older years.
