Introduction
Dog Names that Start with 'Vi' in Pop Culture
Vincent was the yellow Labrador Retriever who played on the television show, “Lost” from 2004 to 2010. He was traveling with his new family Walt and Michael on Oceanic Flight 815 when it crashed on an ‘abandoned’ island. Before the devastating flight, Vincent lived with Brian Porter and his wife Susan and Susan’s son Walt in Australia. After Susan dies, Walt goes to live with his father, Michael in New York, which is why they were on the plane. They take Vincent with them although he is in the luggage area.
For the first few days after the crash, Vincent was missing in the jungle but was seen by one of the passengers, Jack, so they knew he was alive on the island. Another passenger, Locke, carved a whistle to lure Vincent to them and it worked. Walt got his beloved dog back, and everyone was happy, except for the fact that they were still stuck on a deserted island.
There were several times that Vincent was a hero on the show such as one night when he woke everyone by barking because there were wild boars on the beach that were attracted by the smell of the bodies on the plane. He also saved Walt from a polar bear, helped Shannon get over the loss of Boone, led Michael to Sun burying her fake driver’s license, comforted many of the passengers when something bad would happen to them or someone they cared about, and stayed with Jack as he died in the final episode.
Some claimed that Vincent was a bad omen or even a ghost dog who died in the plane crash because he always seemed to be around right before something bad happened such as when Sun was attacked, when the man in black attacks and kills the pilot, right before the body of Steve is found, and when the smoke monster appears for the first time. However, Vincent is also around in many times of need, is a loving pet to almost everyone on the island, and never attacks anyone himself. He is presumed to be a hero and comforter in the final scene of the final episode when he stays with Jack as he dies.
Throughout most of the show, Vincent was played by a Labrador Retriever named Madison, who was from Hawaii and was owned by Kim Stahl, who is an accountant and dog trainer. Before her starring role in “Lost,” Madison was a tracking dog and competed in obedience competitions. Another dog named Pono stood in for Madison a few times, but otherwise, it was always Madison who played Vincent.
