Introduction
Officially the State of Kuwait, Kuwait is a country in Western Asia located in the northern edge of Eastern Arabia, sharing borders with Iraq and Saudi Arabia. The population of the country is around 4.2 million people, with expatriates accounting for 70% of the population. According to the World Bank, Kuwait has the fourth highest per capita income in the world; the country is also home to the largest opera house in the middle east. The dinar, Kuwait’s currency, is the highest valued currency in the world.
This unique country has a lot to offer, including numerous unique name opportunities to consider for your canine companion.
Kuwait Dog Names In Pop Culture
In 2017 four dogs arrived at Philadelphia International Airport, completing a long journey of more than 6,400 miles from Kuwait. The pups then arrived in Berks County, where they would be placed in foster homes through The CatWorks Inc. Rescue group. During an adoption event held at a Petco, the foster parents met the pups they would be caring for while they waited for their forever homes.
According to Nikki Mengel, co-founder of The CatWorks, Kuwait does not have the medical care that is available in the United States. Maha Mullajuma Al Khatibe, the founder of Kuwait Awareness Rehabilitation & Education explained that the country has five clinics, three of which are awful and two that are really good, however, are very expensive. She expressed that many folks in Kuwait don’t see why people would waste time, energy and money helping animals. Al Khatib was born in Kuwait but spent most of her life abroad before returning to the country in 2013 and founding the rescue. A news anchor, she is able to deliver the morning news on state TV and is then free the rest of the day to rescue animals. She explains that religious beliefs also result in the abandonment of pets. In Islam, there is a belief that having dogs in a house will block its blessings.
Mengel, the co-founder of CatWorks, explains that everything goes through customs, so dogs that arrive in the United States from Kuwait have the necessary vaccines. All dogs coming to the United States from Kuwait are given rabies shots (though the last report of rabies in Kuwait was in 1994) and a screwworm test. The dogs have to be illness-free in order to fly.
A dog that really made an impact on Mengel is one named Nico. A young German Shepherd, the pup has a bullet lodged in his spine, which has led to his rear legs being paralyzed, as well as his being incontinent. Mengel says that Nice is “just the happiest thing ever”. According to Mengel, Nico makes people with problems view life in a different way. They can look at Nico and see how happy he is. Nico was evaluated by a surgeon at the Lititz Veterinary Clinic and the vet expressed concern that extracting the bullet could result in more damage. Nico lives comfortably in a foster home while he waits for his forever family.
Kuwait Dog Name Considerations
Choosing a name for your pup can feel like a significant challenge. This is not surprising; after all, you will be calling your pup’s name for years to come so it makes sense that you want to feel good about the name that you choose. Whether you are struggling to choose a name before or after you bring home your pup, consider taking a closer look at a place that has meaning to you. A virtual tour will offer you a closer look at this place and you will likely find a myriad of possibilities for a moniker for your pup.
Take Kuwait, for example. This Western Asia country has a lot to offer and by exploring it you will be introduced to its cities, towns, natural areas, popular foods and well-known people. If you are a geography buff, for example, consider Kobar for Kobar island or Shamiya, which is a suburb of Kuwait city. Set aside potential names that you feel are a fit for later consideration. You can then try out the options with your pup, and ultimately decide on the name that feels like the right fit for your pooch.
With a name from Kuwait, each time you call for your pup you will be reminded of the country, a perfect match if you feel a fondness for it.
