Miami Dog Names

Miami dogs can be found throughout pop culture. A well-known Miami dog is Marley, from the comedy/drama film of 2008 Marley & Me which was based on the book written by John Grogan. The film features the story of John and Jenny, who are living in South Florida where they work as reporters for competing newspapers. As Jenny starts to consider motherhood, John’s friend recommends that they adopt a puppy to gauge their readiness for parenthood. This leads the couple to Marley, a Yellow Labrador Retriever, who turns out to be rather difficult to keep in line. Unfortunately, Marley becomes expelled from dog training. Time passes and John begins writing a column that focuses on Marley and becomes a hit. Jenny becomes pregnant and ultimately has two children, all the while Marley becomes a more integral part of their family, which Jenny realizes that postpartum depression led her to want to give him away. The family ultimately leaves Miami and moves to Pennsylvania, Marley in tow. The film follows the family through the end of Marley’s life.

Gomi the dog is quite popular on Instagram, with over 80,000 followers. In 2017, Gomi put his popularity to work and helped a lost dog find her way home. A Chihuahua named Osita, who was half-blind at 13 years old, was found by Gomi’s person, Micha Porat, wandering alone in South Beach. Porat brought Osita home to see if he could locate her family. Osita made fast friends with Gomi and Porat posted a photo of the pooch on Gomi’s Instagram page. He hoped that by sharing Osita’s story he would be able to reunite the pup with her people. His effort was a success, as his post was forwarded and made its way to Osita’s person, Gustavo Briand, who was thrilled to find his pet safe and sound.

The following Miami dogs are popular on Instagram: Riley Luna, a mini Bull Terrier rescue dog; Kiko, a French Bulldog who dresses up - even wearing pearls; Prince and Grace, this brother/sister duo love the beach; Sawyer, a pooch that helps his parents run their two small farms in Miami and he also enjoys splashing in water and lounging on the couch; Rosie, a mini Goldendoodle who enjoys taking walks, paddleboarding, and napping.
