Introduction
Mobster Dog Names in Pop Culture
Bum was an outlaw at heart. He was a medium sized homeless dog that survived by his wits and was never owned by anyone. Bum made his life on the streets of San Diego and became famous. He would beg and scrounge food from local restaurants, but he had a unique way about him, so the restaurant owners all fell in love with the homeless dog and would bestow him with tasty foods. Many restaurants even put out signs proclaiming that Bum ate at their establishments. Local children would also give the dog treats.
A bit of a rebel rouser, Bum once got into a fight with another canine on the city's train tracks. The two dogs were hit by a train. Bum was knocked off the rails but lost his tail and part of his front paw. The other dog was killed. Despite his injuries, Bum was able to continue functioning and maintain his freewheeling street lifestyle.
Not much kept Bum away from his free-spirited wandering. A few years after the loss of his front paw, Bum was kicked by a horse, and the blow shattered his hind leg. However, the pooch received care and was soon on the road towards recovery.
Bum was once spotted by James Friend, a local reporter, trying to board a train in the heart of the town. The reporter wanted to shoo him away, but Bum refused to leave, so he let the dog onto the train. He then sent a message to a friend at the next train stop encouraging his buddy to meet Bum at the train stop and show the pooch around the town.
Everyone in San Diego knew about Bum and loved the pooch. When a dog licensing law was instigated by the city, they made sure that Bum was exempt.
As time passed, Bum started to suffer from arthritis and was no longer able to make his city rounds. The city then allowed the County Hospital to take Bum in so he could retire in comfort. Bum spent a few months at the hospital before he passed away. Local children started a collection to pay for the dog's burial. It is not known precisely where Bum is buried, but a statue of the canine was erected at a pocket park in the Gaslamp District.
Many considered Bum a rebel rouser, an outlaw, and maybe even a mobster around the city. He was a dog who did not conform to the rules and often also broke a few laws. However, he won the hearts of the locals.
Mobster Dog Name Considerations
Even mobsters love dogs. Famous crime family member James Giuliani is well known for his time as a henchman for the Gambino mobster crew. He was a member of the Gotti family. However, when he left crime and turned his life around, he started to work at Keno's Animal Sanctuary. The cageless shelter is home to over 50 dogs, cats, a tortoise, raccoons, lizards, squirrels, and possums. It has even housed pigs on occasion.
Giuliani credits his work with animals as the saving factor in his life. His love of creatures helped him turn his life around from crime, drug abuse, and alcoholism. Nowadays, Guiliani has left the mobster life behind and combs the streets looking for animals in need to bring back to the shelter. Giuliani also co-owns Diamond Collar, a grooming salon and pet store in Brooklyn. He is a prime example of mobsters and their love for animals.
If you are considering a mobster name for your pooch, then you might want to bestow the Giuliani moniker on them in honor of the real-life mobster who now dedicates his life to helping dogs and other animals in need. Other considerations can be the name of a prison that housed mobsters, such as Alcatraz or a mobster nickname as in Kiki, nickname of famed mobster, Marion Roberts.
