Shaggy Dog Names in Pop Culture
One day, Wilbur goes to a museum with his friends. At the museum, he strikes up a conversation with Professor Plumcutt. The Professor starts to tell Wilbur about the historic Borgia family who often used shape shifting to battle and fight their enemies.
On the way out of the museum, Wilbur accidentally bumps into a display table holding various jewelry items. A ring falls down into the cuff of the boy's pants. The ring is a cursed legacy of the Borgia family. Wilbur reads the inscription the ring which states, "Into a dog's body I change." After reading the inscription, he is transformed into an Old English Sheepdog named Chiffon. The only way for Wilbur to be changed back into a boy full time is if he performs an act of selfless heroism.
Wilbur tries to go home as Chiffon the shaggy dog but he is chased out of his family's house because they don't realize the dog is truly their son. Moochie and Professor Plumcutt are the only ones who figure out that Chiffon is truly Wilbur.
Francesca is a lovely French girl who Wilbur likes and wants to take on a date. While out on the date, spies who have been trying to gain secrets from Professor Plumcutt show up. Francesca is knocked into the water and starts to drown. Wilbur turns into Chiffon and jumps into the water to drag her to shore. His act of selfless bravery in saving Francesca is enough to break the curse so that Wilbur no longer turns into Chiffon. Once the curse is broken, the real Chiffon dog appears. When Francesca returns to France, she gives Chiffon to Wilbur's family as a way to say thank you for Wilbur saving her life. Moochie and Wilbur's father allow them to keep Chiffon.
The Shaggy Dog was filmed entirely in black and white, but nowadays a colorized version is available that allows audiences to experience the entire story in dazzling color so they can enjoy Wilbur, Moochie, and Chiffon in a more realistic fashion.
Shaggy Dog Names
If you love The Shaggy Dog movies or you have recently obtained your own version of a shaggy dog into your life then you might want to consider naming your pooch after the iconic show or film. You can also pick a handle that showcases all of the pooch's fur puff. Let's face the facts, there is just nothing more adorable than a fluffy, shaggy dog. When thinking about a name to commemorate the iconic story, The Shaggy Dog, you will have to decide if you want to pick a name from the novel, motion pictures, or television movies.
The novel, 'Salten's The Hounds of Florence', written by Felix Salten, was the basis for the first Shaggy Dog Movie. Walt Disney created the black and white film The Shaggy Dog in 1959. The movie is about a boy who turns into an English Sheepdog. It follows the boy/dog's many adventures. The film was Walt Disney's first action comedy and fans loved it. It was considered a unique theme for the era and even a bit shocking to very conservative audiences. The film was the most successful and highest grossing Disney movie of the time. The movie was made on a budget of only 1 million but grossed 9 million which was considered extremely successful for the era. The original movie was re-released in 1967 and also did well financially. Walt Disney had originally planned to make the film into a television series but it never occurred. A comic book adaptation did occur that followed the film closely and became very popular.
In 1976, Walt Disney released a sequel to the successful 1959 movie. The sequel was called The Shaggy Dog D.A. Audiences loved the film and it was considered a success. In 1987, a television sequel to the movie was released. It was followed by a 1994 television remake that also received a fan following. A 2006 theatrical remake of The Shaggy Dog was also launched but received low reviews by the critics who appeared to not like Tim Allen's performance in the movie. Although the film was thought of as a remake, it was starkly different than the original, iconic motion picture created by Walt Disney during the 1950s. When picking a handle for your dog, you will have a lot of shaggy dog considerations such as will you pick a name from the book, movie, television film, or just a cute name for a dog with a lot of shaggy fur?
