Introduction
Song Inspired Dog Names in Pop Culture
Raise your hand (or paw) if you love to sing on road trips. A lot of us love it, and we actually can’t imagine being in a car for more than five minutes without the volume up and the music falling on our ears. We’re singing at the top of our lungs in no time, whether we’re trying to keep ourselves awake or just enjoying the sunshine and blue skies. Music makes the journey better, and life would be so boring without it.
Lola, the Shiloh Shepherd totally agrees. Now, when you hear the name “Lola,” you might automatically think of Lola the showgirl from Barry Manilow’s “Copacabana.” Manilow sings, “Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl / With yellow feathers in her hair and a dress cut down to there / She would merengue and do the cha-cha…” You can hear the tune in your head already perhaps.
But our featured dog, Lola, not only enjoys music but also enjoys singing herself. Owner Annie Aul posted a video of Lola in the car’s backseat in 2017. The then eight-year-old Shiloh Shepherd is still all about chilling with Annie for road trips and also showing off those vocal chords. Wow! You’ll have to watch the video on YouTube to truly appreciate just how much this pup digs music and belting out her version of Queen’s “We Are the Champions.”
On that particular day, Annie was traveling from Alabama to Florida to pick up a horse. Annie says that Lola does not respond in this manner to all music. She likes Queen (obviously) and has a particular fondness for country hits. When the pooch hears a jam that she likes, she wakes up and begins her singing. Lola reminds us that we don’t have to know all the words to have a good time!
Lola probably takes her cues from Annie, who is actually quite into the song herself during the video. Together, Queen, Annie, and Lola are quite the adorable trio, but we at Wag! think that Lola definitely is a sort of showgirl or at least a showstopper! The minute you witness this singing sensation, you might put on some Queen just to see if your own dog responds.
Lola certainly has herself a good time and is able to keep entertained during her and Annie’s adventures. She’s quite the soulful singer, indeed. The next time you take your pup along for the ride, try out some music. Maybe your fur child has some hidden talents!
Song Inspired Dog Name Considerations
Songs are everywhere. There’s no shortage of music out there. You might consider a song inspired name for your new pup. You could think about songs you’ve written yourself, famous hits, or even a song that was recorded in the year you purchased, adopted, or rescued your new fluffy family member. The sky's the limit when you ponder music and potential pup monikers. Just turn on the radio, pull out the old records, or Google our world’s most beloved jams. You will certainly find what you’re looking for with a little research and listening.
You might go with some golden oldies inspired names like “Bayou” or “Peggy Sue.” If country music is your preferred genre, you might select something like “Walker,” Whiskey,” “Miner,” “Midnight,” “Jolene,” or “Fancy.” If those turn-of-the-century hits are appealing try “Baby” or “Genie.” Look up classic rock, rap, and contemporary songs, too. Finally, if you’re into the greatest songs of all time, name your doggo “Thriller,” “Dancer,” or “Heartbreaker.” Use our name guide below to get some inspiration, but we truly recommend listening to what you love, too. Those songs will make sense to you most. Your dog will have a very meaningful, musical name in no time. So get to listening, singing, and thinking about the title that suits your pet best!

Community Dogs With Song Inspired Names
We got Roxanne from a rescue organization, the dog we went to get was Lyric, but when we saw our pup, we couldn't say no. My daughter's favorite song is Roxanne, so that's where she got her name
