Introduction
Spotted Dog Names in Pop Culture
Who’s the good ole boy with the ultimate red spot around his eye? More than likely, you already know the pup I’m talking about. His name is Bullseye, and he’s the adorable mascot for Target. Something you may not know is that his name used to be Spot. Bullseye is a Miniature Bull Terrier, and if he doesn’t make you want to go shopping with a red cart and a bag of popcorn, nothing will. We approve of all ad campaigns that highlight canines. The world’s dogs deserve the attention.
Fun fact (and essential one): The character of Bullseye is male, but the actual Bull Terrier is a female. She lives on a ranch in California, and her owner runs Worldwide Movie Animals. Another fun fact: In 2004, a 64-square feet portrait of Bullseye was painted and now hangs in the Target Corporation headquarters. The dog is also, of course, featured on television and Internet commercials, billboards, store signs, and even as Target stuffed animals used at public promotional and company events.
As dogs are dressed up or, in this case, subject to makeup, some of us become a little suspicious and even disapproving. But Target is sure to keep Bullseye safe as the company professional makeup artists apply the pup’s iconic spots, which we know as the red Target logo around the left eye. A natural, non-toxic (veggie-based to be specific) makeup is applied and washed away to once again reveal that beautiful Bull Terrier white coat.
There’s even a Bullseye shop, in which you may purchase your favorite Bullseye stuffed dog toy. Bullseye dresses up as your valentine, a hockey player, a football star, the Statue of Liberty, a pride pup, an ugly sweater wearer, a turkey, a voter, a tourist, a school girl, Cupid, and a Halloween bat. You can also find shirts, bags, mugs, and other items in the Bullseye store. There are no bones about it; he’s got it all, folks!
The spot game is strong with this one. It’s a signature “eye patch” that he bears, and this Bull Terrier is undeniably cute. He’s so famous, and if you haven’t seen him before, dig yourself out from under the rock you’ve been hiding under. Seek this puppy out! Target is pretty secretive about their little four-legged star, but we know she eats dog food and she flies first-class. She has a rhinestone collar and multiple costumes that she wears at different events. Though Bullseye may seem like a diva, she likes doggie treats just like “everydoggy” else does!
Spotted Dog Name Considerations
You might like naming your domesticated animal after a wild animal that happens to boast spots. Try “Cheetah,” “Leo,” “Moray,” or “Trunk” on to see if any of them fit. If your pup has a dark coat with light spots all over, consider “Blizzard,” “Snowflake,” “Starry,” “Firefly,” “Fawn,” or “Constellation.” If the reverse is the case, meaning you have a Dalmatian or Bluetick Coonhound (or the like), then you might select “Pepper,” “Chip,” “Domino,” or “Ladybug.” Do you see how selecting this kind of name will be both overwhelming and fun? Enjoy the process, and if you stumble upon something new, share it with us below. There are so many options when you really think about it!
Some humorous dog names could be “Freckles,” “Pimp” for “Pimples,” “Rash,” or “Zit.” More common names that make sense with this spotty theme are “Mark,” “Dusty,” “Dottie,” and “Mo.” Get out there and look around! Wherever you go, examine your surroundings for spotty people, places, and things. You’ll be amazed about how plentiful spots are. Perhaps your doggo fits in with the world more than you think. Spots are great and so unique, so be sure to highlight these great features with your dog’s “spotacular” moniker.
