The Matrix Dog Names

For anyone who as adopted a rescue dog, you know that they can be a handful, as there is little to no information on their background, such as where they came from, their previous situation, or even their genetic heritage. A few years ago, a young man came across a sign on a house that said “free puppy” and decided to knock on the door, never knowing at the time what he was about to get himself into. 

Inside the house was a puppy with beautiful amber eyes and the traditional fluff of a young longer-haired breed, but although he was uncertain what kind, he decided to adopt the little guy anyway. He named the dog Neo and brought it home, only to discover that his new friend was more than the usual new-puppy handful. 

If it wasn’t enough that Neo seemed endlessly skittish, avoiding every human but his owner whenever faced with someone new, but he was also nearly impossible to potty train, as the owner’s house and car were quickly stained with the puppy’s inability to find an appropriate place to go. Worse yet, he needed constant attention, and even though his owner gave him great care, he was still unable to dedicate enough time to him as both a full-time student and worker. 

Whenever the owner left the house, he left Neo fenced in the backyard, but somehow Neo managed to jump over or dig his way out, making his way over to the neighbor’s house to play with their dogs. In turn, the owner built him a higher fence, but that was also eventually chewed through and the problems persisted. 

After a while, Neo became a nuisance to the neighbors, who eventually leashed him and brought him into a local Humane Society to have him stay until they could work out the issues with his owner, at which point a worker quickly recognized that Neo was not just a dog, but a “high-content” Wolf Dog, meaning he was more wolf than dog. 

After looking into the ownership laws for wolf dogs in Arizona, the Humane Society discovered that the owner would need a special permit, one that was particularly difficult to obtain, to keep him. When they finally reached out to Neo’s owner, they presented a few options, one of which was taking him to the Wolf Connection, a specialized rescue and sanctuary for wolves in California. Realizing his furry friend may never adjust to domestic life in Tuscon, the owner reluctantly decided to give him up. 

The healthy wolf dog was finally introduced to the sanctuary, but his desire to find his pack (like it was when he tried to socialize with the neighbor dogs) persisted, and he quickly broke out of his isolated kennel in search of companionship. He ended up in the territory of the alpha female, Maya, and within the first night was joining the group howl with his new pack. He had finally found his home, all thanks to the kindness and patience of his owner and the knowledgeable staff of the Humane Society.
