Introduction
Tool Inspired Dog Names in Pop Culture
Josh Hutcherson, whom we know (and love) as Peeta Mellark from the Hunger Games film series, owns a beautiful Pit Bull named “Driver.” Perhaps you’re thinking of the “screwdriver” already; after all, we are talking about tools here. But this adopted treasure drove himself right into his owner’s heart and completely won over the actor at Hands Paws Hearts after being removed from a municipal Los Angeles shelter back in 2012.
Hutcherson brags on his pup a lot, and you need only follow his Instagram photos to see how much he loves his “little angel.” He says that Driver was a very good puppy, almost housebroken at eight weeks and never destructive. And he adores Driver’s silvery-blue Pit eyes. Driver likes to play with other dogs as well; he seems to be friendly and always have a good time, whether he’s frolicking or lounging on the couch with his celebrity dad.
After the adoption, Hutcherson couldn’t take Driver home immediately. His little buddy needed surgery on a broken femur. Driver is also missing a few toes, so he’s unique in that respect. We’re so happy that this famous celebrity chose to make time and room in his busy schedule for a canine cutie.
Hutcherson is a huge fan of pet adoption. He’s not into puppy mills; instead, he knows that there are gorgeous dogs in need of great homes right in your own town. There are many pictures of Driver and Josh across the web. Photos show Hutcherson cuddling Driver, carrying Driver out of his Hollywood trailer (What an armful!), and walking Driver out in the L.A. sunshine.
Pit Bulls can sometimes have a negative sort of reputation, but it’s always great to hear stories of lovable, sweet Pits who are as well-behaved and cuddly as other dogs. Hutcherson looked past breed and reputation when he chose Driver. It is said that when the two met, they had an instant connection. Driver is a lovely grey and white Pit Bull with a heart that longs to play and love his owner deeply. That’s what Hutcherson saw that adoption day, and that’s the doggo he still owns today.
The story reminds us to consider dogs in need, no matter our status in life. Rich, poor, old, or young, we can find just what we’re looking for at an animal shelter nearby. You’ll always be able to look at your pet and know that you saved them. Hutcherson is quick to say that it’s strange we go for new dogs over ones that need our help, ones that will soon be put down if we do not intervene. High-fives (and paws) for Josh and Driver!
Tool Inspired Dog Name Considerations
Some of us love the sounds of hammers driving nails into boards, saws munching through hardwood, rakes sliding over leaves, and wrenches tightening those nuts and bolts. It’s the sound of work, and it’s frankly music to our ears! If your furry friend likes to hang around while you lift the car’s hood, plug in the table saw, or make your way into the rows of crops, they’re familiar with tools. And so many of the tools we use can actually make really cool dog names if you think about it. We guarantee that a tool inspired name will certainly be unique.
If your dog is playful and at times rough, you might name them “Hammer,” “Sledge,” “Drill,” “Grinder,” “Edgy,” or “Spark.” If you’re a gardener and your four-legged companion enjoys working alongside you and even digging with you, you could stick with a title like “Plow,” “Rake,” “Sheary,” or “Pruner.” Imagine “Belta” after your trusty tool belt or “Gunner” for that staple gun you couldn’t live without! All you have to do is set out on a project; pay attention to the tools you use. More than likely you’ll land on the perfect tag for your new fluffy family member.
