Uzbekistan Dog Names In Pop Culture
A well-known football player on the Uzbeck national team is Alexander Geynrikh. An experienced forward, Alexander moved on to coaching in 2018.
A dog named Alexander gained media attention in 2012 when he was found by the Humane Society of Greater Dayton, Ohio. A Pit Bull mix, the pup was found in an empty house by the landlord. Apparently, when the residents moved out, they left the pup locked in the basement and he was covered in fleas. After being rushed to a veterinarian’s office, Alexander was stabilized and returned to the humane society where he is getting the medical care and attention he needs.
A common nickname for Alexander is “Alex” and that is the name of a military dog who received media attention as a result of his military service in Afghanistan. Alex was a bomb-sniffing dog who had a strong bond with his handler, Army Specialist Alec Alcoser. The pair slept in the same bed and played together during the days that Alcoser was off. They even had a routine for each mission; Alex would get a dog treat and Alcoser some ice cream.
When a blast from a suicide bomber was detonated on the street near Bagram Airfield, which is the largest American base in the country, three Czech soldiers lost their lives. Two Afghan soldiers, along with Alcoser, were wounded. Also injured was Alex. Despite the blast, when a firefight then erupted, Alex stayed with his handler, who had suffered multiple broken bones in his arms and legs as well as had a mild traumatic brain injury. Alex lost his left leg as a result of the bombing. Upon returning to the United States, they were reunited briefly for a Purple Heart ceremony, where they both received the award for being wounded in the line of duty.
It now appears that the pair will be reunited for good. Alex has retired and as Alcoser continues to recover, he is hoping to bring his partner home to join his wife and six month-old son upon completing his rehabilitation.
