Introduction
Weather Dog Names in Pop Culture
News Channel 6 in Tulsa, Oklahoma has a weather dog, and we think such a mascot should be required of every weather station. Radar is a Beagle mix, and he was rescued from the Tulsa Animal Welfare Shelter. He’ll be nine years old in May of 2018, and he’s such a cutie in his scarf or his yellow rain jacket. Whatever attire the weather calls for, Radar looks fabulous in anything!
He doesn’t just join the news team from time to time, but he helps News Channel 6’s chief meteorologist Travis Meyer at Wild Weather Camp. Radar is an integral part of the excitement and fun there. At the camp, Travis and Radar show young children all that they need to know about safety during severe weather. You can also find Radar out and about the city of Tulsa, interacting with fans and other fur friends. He’s lovable and friendly. Did we really expect anything less from a Beagle, though?
Radar’s trainer’s name is Susanne, and she says that she uses a lot of positive reinforcement while getting Radar ready for camps and outings. She says that a clicker and some treats did the trick and that she rewards the cutie when he pays attention to her. If he’s off in his own world, she ignores that kind of behavior. She knows what motivates him and prompts him with his favorite treats, games, and toys. Susanne notes that Radar is so accustomed to good behavior and performances now; he will actually perform for about twenty minutes without treats. He gets excited and is eager to work because he knows his prize is on the way!
Radar actually lives with his trainer Susanne. And he’s not the only animal on the three acres in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. Susanne’s family also is home to other dogs and rescue cats. He’s also brother to many farm animals like chickens and horses. Guinea pigs and even a rescue tortoise complete the household. His best friend is his German Shepherd brother, Sylar.
He does many tricks for Weatherman Travis Meyer, and he delights viewers regularly. He loves to climb, so if a trick requires him to be on top of something, he’s all in. Visit his Facebook page, and you’ll notice that he loves performing shows at many elementary schools in Oklahoma. Getting kids excited about the power of weather and safety precautions is his mission. He feeds off the energy of the young crowd. Further, he enjoys spreading awareness about other rescue dogs like himself at local animal shelters.
Weather Dog Name Considerations
No matter if you have a Beagle, German Shepherd, Border Collie, or Dachshund, if you have some connection with the weather, this name guide could lead you to the perfect title for your dog. You and your pup may really enjoy walking in the rain together or sitting in front of your window observing storms and the rainbows that follow. Considering a lot of dogs often have a fear of thunder, if your canine actually likes a good lightning display, that’s super unique. Why not celebrate that?
The Weather Channel, which many of us turn to for a local forecast and worldwide perspective, affords us a multitude of television personalities. You might honor one of The Weather Channel’s team members: “Cantore,” “Abrams,” and “Seidel” are all great, recognizable names. A weather instrument or piece of equipment, similar to “Radar,” might also point you in the right direction; think about “Baro” (short for barometer) and “Vane” (short for weather vane). If your new puppy rode out a hurricane with you, or if you adopted a rescue dog after a tropical storm, you could take the name of that particular cyclone. Weather is miraculous, and so is your four-legged sidekick. Best of luck in finding a weather-inspired beauty for that collar tag!
