Introduction
If you’ve welcomed a new dog into the family home, then the fun part begins: naming them. Coming up with a name is a challenge, but if you have young children, it might not be. Your kids are bound to suggest Zenon dog names at some point.
Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century is a 1999 Disney film based on the book of the same name. It follows Zenon Kar, a girl who lives in an Earth-orbiting space station. As a punishment for getting into trouble, her parents send her to earth to live with her aunt. While on Earth, she finds out that trouble is brewing in her home space station.
Zenon resonates with many children, which is why they may beg you to consider Zenon dog names. Read on to discuss your options.
Zenon Dog Names in Pop Culture
Not every dog owner wants people to know their pooch got their name from a movie starring a space child. If that’s the case, then there’s no harm in finding other associations for your new dog. Why not find dogs in pop culture that share the same name as your dog? You can then tell people they got their name from somewhere else, while still keeping the kids happy with the Zenon film association.
One dog ultimately fits that bill, Edward. Edward is a Commander aboard the space station in the Zenon film. He is also the person Zenon gets into trouble with and has her sent to earth. Edward doesn’t trust children and thinks they are all trouble makers. If your dog likes to blame kids for doing naughty things that the dog does instead, then it makes for the perfect name, or Ed for short.
Edward is also the name of a Cardigan Welsh Corgi in the 1988 drama The Accidental Tourist. The film received four nominations for the Academy Awards, and Geena Davis won the award for best supporting actress.
The dog Edward’s real name is Champion Codan’s Star Spangled Banner or Bud for short. He played his role in the film perfectly. He wrinkled his brow on command, bared his teeth, and would growl when you needed him to. He played the part of the grieving dog well, and no one can figure out why he could do all these things on cue.
Bud’s trainers were exceptionally impressed with him and how he was so trainable and agreeable with everything. Standard practice with a dog for a film would be for the crew to buy it off the trainer then sell it back at half price. However, Bud made such a great impression that they chose to keep him for further roles.
Before that happened, Bud went back to his trainer, Joyce Swain, to get the points he needed to complete his championship dog show title. Joyce said Bud was a standout at shows as well. He wouldn’t only stand and trot in the ring like most dogs but would put on a show.
He would do tricks, bark then sit up, shake his head, turn around, and there would be no stopping him. He was a dog made for stardom. Joyce said once he started, there was no way to stop him. He wasn’t content to trot and behave. Once in the spotlight, however, he was the perfect dog.
If Bud as Ed in The Accidental Tourist ever needed a second dog to step in, his litter mate was it. Cody, with almost identical markings, was his back-up.
Zenon Dog Name Considerations
Even if you don’t particularly like the idea of naming your dog after a Disney film, you can’t help but see the smiles on your children’s faces and give in. You never know, you may grow to like the name selection and the movie. That’s not to say that you and the kids don’t have to do any homework to find the best Zenon dog names.
What gender is your dog? Some Zenon dog names like Andrew would only work for a male. However, there’s no harm in creating female variants like Andrea. Some names may be unisex such as Proto or Zoa.
Next is your dog’s personality. See if you can match them to that of a character in the Zenon film. Take Zenon, for example. She’s heroic and strong, trying to save her planet. While your dog is unlikely to don a superhero costume and follow suit, they might be strong and brave as well.
Worth considering, as well, is your dog’s breed and color. If your dog appears a little “alien” with their coloring and breed, then a Zenon name will work well with the feel and theme of the film. Even after all these considerations, however, the kids are bound to overrule your decision an choose a name they like the best anyway. Make sure it’s the right one!
