The city of Davis sits in both Gavin and Murray Counties in the state of Oklahoma, 76 miles south of Oklahoma City. Davis has many scenic places to visit close by, so you are not short on places to explore with your pup. There is a vet in town who is happy to help your pup should he fall ill during your visit. 

Before you head out on any grand adventures, fuel up at Smokin’ Joe’s Rib Ranch. This family-run BBQ place serves up huge portions of succulent BBQ of many varieties, including hot wings, pulled pork, brisket, ribs and chicken, all with a generous serving of sides. You certainly won’t leave hungry! Pets are welcome here at the expansive outdoor area, perfect for a whole-family outing!

Not too far away is the Cross Bar Ranch where you will find many trails to explore, over 100 miles of them in fact! Pets are welcome here, but be aware it is also an OTV area, so keep alert for approaching vehicles. Some of the trails can be quite rocky, so wear appropriate footwear and bring water for you both out here. Keep your pet leashed as there is lots of wildlife that call this area home, including hogs, turkeys, snakes and even bears, so stick to the trails! Restrooms are provided here, and you can camp  if you would like to spend a little more time at Cross Bar Ranch.

The town of Sulphur is just eight miles east of Davis and has many pawriffic thigs to do with your dog. The Vendome Well and Flower Garden is worth popping into for a look and taking a stroll with your pup on a lead along the easy 0.5 mile trail walk. The well outflows a whopping 2,500 gallons of water per minute into an artificial creek which flows through to Travertine Creek. Just south of the well is Veterans Lake, where there is another great trail to explore. This one is 2.8 miles around the lake itself and is handicap accessible too. Check out the view over the town of Sulphur and out into the national park from the scenic lookout at Bromide Hill, or have a walk along the moderately difficult 1.9-mile Bison Pasture Trail.

Just 11 miles north of Davis is the town of Wynnewood you will find the Wynnewood City Park,  a great open space for a play and a walk with your pet. There is lots of grass here for a game of catch with your well-behaved pet, but be aware there aren’t any fences here. You can also walk the perimeter of the play area with your leashed pup. The park has many shady trees to keep you cool in warm weather and picnic tables for a comfortable lunch break. A playground and various play equipment is dotted throughout the park and restrooms are also on site.

The Point Campground and Trails in Chickasaw National Park in Sulphur has two lovely little trails to check out with your pup. The Fishing Rock Trail is 0.8 miles, and Lakeview is 0.5 miles, each one way, and are both easy to walk and have lovely views into the forest and the Lake of the Arbuckles. The Point has a family-friendly picnic area and campsites that welcome pets if you would like to stay a while. Tent sites and RV sites are located here. The anglers will appreciate the fishing in the Lake of the Arbuckles, well-known as the place to catch your dinner! Fido will enjoy his time here with you, but always clean up after him and keep him on a leash for his safety.

The Buckhorn Campground within the Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Sulphur is a pet-friendly campground and recreation area where you can stay for the day, or extend your visit for a few days. There are several trails here where you can bring your pet for a walk, but keep him on a leash at all times and pick up any waste he leaves behind. The Rock Creek Multi-Use Trails are easy to moderate in difficulty over distances from 2.1 to 4.4 miles. Some of these are out-and-back, or you can take interconnecting trails to form a loop. It is a good idea to source a map before you head out here. There are some lovely picnic areas along the lake for when you are ready for a rest.

The town of Ardmore is 26 miles south of Davis, but is worth the little road trip for the Ardmore Regional Park. This massive green space has something for everyone, including an off-leash dog park for your furry friend! Your pup will really appreciate some time to run around and socialise with other pups and playing freely. Once he has worn himself out at the dog park, pop him back on the lead and explore the hiking trails. There are six trails here, all easy to walk and varying in length from 0.4 miles to 1.5 miles long through the woodland and along the border of City Lake. The park also has a host of other recreation facilities, including a playground, fishing at the lake, picnic areas, a softball complex, horseshoe pits and a skate park.
