East Kamas
The Uinta Mountains are an adventure seekers dream. If your pooch loves to get out in the mountains, pack some snacks, water, and a leash, and head over for hours of hiking. The unique terrain combines rocky cliffs, pines, and hundreds of high mountain lakes. Shingle Creek is five miles round trip. It cuts through a forest of pine and aspen trees. You also pass through open meadows before arriving at Shingle Creek Lake. Yellow Pine Creek is another pawsome trail. It’s a 4.5 mile loop with a few steep places. If you happen to be there during the early summer, you’ll get a beautiful display of wildflowers.

The Jordanelle State Park is about 20 minutes west of Kamas in the town of Heber, and is made up of three major areas, all surrounding the expansive Jordanelle Reservoir. While this is a pup-ular location for boaters and water skiers, it also has some pretty furrific trails. The Perimeter Trail is 13 miles long and goes about halfway around the Reservoir. Wada Way and Keetley are a couple of loops near the Ross Creek Trailhead. Rock Top Trail and Three Rocks Trail are both located near the Rock Cliff Trailhead. Keep in mind, dogs must be leashed at all times and are not allowed on the beaches.

Midway
Is your fur baby begging for some off leash time? Head over to the Valais Dog Park in Midway. Located inside Valais Park, this fenced area is only 20 minutes from Kamas. Your pooch can burn off some energy as he darts and dashes around the field. He’ll love mixing and mingling with new four legged mates. When he’s finished playing, clip on his leash and follow the trail that weaves through the main park. Valais Park features sport courts, ball fields, playgrounds, and picnic facilities. Water is also available, so be sure to give your pal a big drink.

Looking for a new place to walk your dog? Leash up your pup and hop on the Historic Union Pacific Rail Trail. You can access the trail in this Park City neighborhood, which is about 15 minutes from Kamas. The trail stretches 28 miles and passes through a couple small towns. As you head out on the trail, you’ll pass through a narrow volcanic canyon. Your pooch will not only get some much needed exercise, she’ll also enjoy the beautiful scenery along Silver Creek. Note that there is very little shade on the trail. If you are using it during the summer months, try to go in the morning or early evening.
