If you and Fido are looking for some pawtastic hiking, take Millcreek Canyon Road from East Millcreek and go exploring in this vast wilderness area. Travel along Rattlesnake Gulch on the Pipeline trail, or down into Thayne Canyon from this entry point. Your pooch may join you in your adventures as long as you keep clear of the watershed areas and clean up any waste. If you wander off the trails, your canine companion must be on a leash at all times. On the trails, dogs need to be leashed on even-numbered days but are allowed to accompany you off leash on odd-numbered days. Make sure you stay alert for wilderness hazards like snakes and rockfalls.

La Joya Heights
In the La Joya Heights neighborhood, you and your pup will enjoy exploring Olympus Hills Park. This 31.5-acre park offers a puptacular walking trail. Go for a jog or take a leisurely stroll as you take in the stunning views of Mount Olympus in the background. Make sure to keep your pooch on a leash up to 6 feet long and pick up any waste. If you’re visiting the area and want to bring your four-footed pal along, check out the Mt. Olympus Garden Level Apartment on Airbnb. This one-bed, one-bath rental allows pets. Canyon Rim
Wonderful outdoor adventures await you and your pup in Canyon Rim. Take Fido to Parley’s Historic Nature Park for 68 acres of walking and jogging paths and designated play areas for your pooch. Spend time hiking along the trails that go along Parley’s Creek, then let your furry friend romp with other canines in one of the 3 areas designated for off-leash activity. This park includes trails that require dogs be on a leash up to 6 feet long and trails where Fido can be off-leash. When you want to have one-on-one time with your pup, leash up and head to Canyon Rim Park to walk or jog the trails in this 15.7-acre green space.

Woodridge Terrace
Woodridge Terrace is a fantastic community for you and Fido. With direct access to the trailhead leading to Grandeur Peak in Millcreek Canyon, you and your pooch can enjoy the great outdoors. Be sure to plan plenty of time for this climb. The trail is 3.2 miles one way. Pups are welcome to accompany you along the trail. On even-numbered days, they need to be on a leash up to 6 feet long, but on odd-numbered days, you can take the leash off and let them roam freely along the trail. This is a true wilderness area, so make sure to be on the alert for snakes, falling rocks, and other hazards.

Holladay
Directly south of East Millcreek, the neighborhood of Holladay offers pawtacular outdoor recreation opportunities. Take some time to explore Big Cottonwood Creek in Creekside Park with Fido. From there, you can head north into the Big Cottonwood Regional Park and hike or jog the trails in this 47.5-acre park. For more rigorous exercise with your pooch, take your pup to the Mt. Olympus trailhead and hike along the wilderness trail. The path to the peak is 3.5 miles one way. Your canine companion is welcome to accompany you. There are leash restrictions on even-numbered days, but on odd-numbered days, Fido can roam the trail with you free of a tether.
