Dog Areas in Scottsmoor

Laid-back, small, and friendly, Scottsmoor, FL is a tight-knit farming community just north of Titusville. In the 1920s, Scottsmoor was a  resort town, until the construction of the John F. Kennedy Space Center drew most of the tourists south.Though modern visitors might prefer proximity to the space center, there are still some tourists who think Scottsmoor is out of this world -- the area is a haven for birdwatchers, and the migratory ducks, rails and painted buntings all draw those who like to observe things flying a little closer to earth.

Scottsmoor is also known for the Scottsmoor Flatwoods Sanctuary -- unfortunately, this nature preserve is off-limits to canine companions due to the diversity of wildlife. You won’t find a veterinary clinic in Scottsmoor, but don’t worry -- you can find plenty of places to take care of your buddy a short drive away in Titusville.

Scottsmoor is a little too small to sustain its own dog park, but you and your furry friend can still sniff out a few exercise options! Parrish Park has over 16.5 acres of space and some pawesome walking trails for you and Fido to explore. And don’t worry -- you two can find plenty of opportunities for off-leash adventures just a little fur-ther afield!

Marina Dog Park in Titusville is a real mutts-visit! Your pooch will love the wide open space, and owners will certainly appreciate the fabulous views over the lagoon. The park is also well-shaded by trees around the lot, so you can let your fur ball leap about to their heart’s content without worrying about them overheating in the Florida sun! There’s a separate area for small dogs, so your buddy can play and socialize be they big or little, and bags and water are provided. As an added bonus, there’s also bathrooms and seating for humans!

Make no bones about it -- Canaveral National Seashore Park is a truly beautiful spot. The shoreline is a popular place to watch rocket launches, but if you and your pup are coming here to wait for liftoff, be prepared for parking shortages and long lines from here to the final frontier! Your pup is welcome to walk along the bucolic beach and wildlife trails as long as they’re leashed. There’s a charge to get in, but $5 is hardly astronomical! Afterwards, you two can chow down at the Durango Steakhouse. This star-quality restaurant serves up a mean chicken sandwich, and makes space for doggy diners outside.

It can be difficult to find fur-friendly hiking in this part of Florida, as many of the preserves are off-limits to pets. But wagging tails are certainly welcome in the furrific Lake Harney Wilderness Area -- as long as they’re on a leash, of course! The main trail here follows the historic Florida Coast railroad, and it’s mostly flat, so it’s suitable for all ages and abilities. There’s also an overlook tower, so you and your pooch can gaze out over the swamp and river. Careful, though -- the trails can get flooded after it rains!

If your buddy likes to swim as part of their off-leash activities, you’d need to be barking mad not to take them to the dog beach at Smyrna Dunes Park! Unfortunately, you can’t let your furry friend run free, but there’s no length limit for leashes, so they can still have a whale of a time splashing about in the warm, shallow water. Afterwards, why not treat your best friend to a trip to Silly Willy’s Pet Boutique? This locally owned store has its own dog bakery, and helpful staff are always on hand to help you pick out healthy, homemade treats guaranteed to get your dog drooling!

The dog run on Paige Street in New Smyrna Beach isn’t quite as large as the one in Titusville, but it’d still be a huge faux paws not to visit! The acre lot still has plenty of space for your pooch to run around and tire themselves out in. There’s a doggy obstacle course for an entertaining cardio workout, and a large, man-made structure provides shade for human and canine visitors. Like the park in Titusville, there’s a separate area for small dogs, and plenty of picnic benches for tired owners to rest.
