It really doesn’t matter what time of day you come to visit, because Sweetie Pie's is going to have something delicious waiting for you. You and your pup can enjoy a large selection of breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They also have two areas that you can enjoy with your fur baby. If the weather is nice, you can sit out on the patio. If you aren’t enjoying the weather so much, they have an enclosed patio that is safe from the wind and the rain for you to enjoy. The best part is that it is only four miles from Smithflat.

Old Town is full of trails for you to walk with your pup. Along these trails, you will find historic shops and business that are fur-friendly and welcoming. There are even several places that have watering bowls out front. The neat part is that a lot of the stores prominently display paw prints, showing that they welcome your pet to come and in the shop with you. This is a fun way to learn the history of the area without having to spend the day in the car, and it’s only four miles from Smithflat! Just remember to bring your leash along for the adventure.

The Rails-to-Trails system has turned its attention to Placerville. The El Dorado Trail is a great place to see history and get your exercise. You will learn the history of the Gold Rush by walking through these former boom towns. Stop in Old Town at the end of the trail to catch the history of specific to each building. The best part is that Rails-to-Trails have paved these trails so that they are fun and easy to walk with your pet. As you are walking, you can take in the same scenery that the original rail riders saw when they were planning their adventure.

Right there in the middle of Gold Rush Country, and only 10 miles from Smithflat, is a very special area. This area allows you to see what is left from the days when laborers were forced to channel the American River by hand! The trails are strong and clear in the  Dave Moore Nature Area, which makes it a great way to see the land and its beauty. You can walk the trails and explore nature while you imagine what it would have been to live and work here during the Gold Rush. There are even places where you and your pup can take a dip in the river, so be sure to bring a towel!

As you grow up in school, you learn all about the Gold Rush. Now, you can take your fur baby to the place where it is said to have begun. Marshall Gold State Historic Park has many levels of trails that lead you to the place that sparked the Gold Rush. You can choose the difficulty of your adventure by checking the maps of the trails. Most of them are clearly marked. Along the way, you can take in the historic markers that explain when the trail was made and by who. In some cases, you may even learn what they are used for.
