Yankee Jims is a small, rural community near Sierra Nevada. You may need to drive around a bit to find some dog-friendly areas, but fortunately, there are plenty in several directions! North Auburn in Auburn, CA is just under 18 miles from Yankee Jims. In addition to having some dog-friendly hotels, the area also has a dog park within Ashford Park, known as Ashley Memorial Dog Park. The fenced-in park features separate areas for small and large dogs, obstacles for agility, and even some rocks to climb on. On the northern end of the area is Christian Valley Park, where your leashed dog is free to join you to walk along the trails or play in the creek.

Coloma is about 30 miles from Yankee Jims and is a rural town that’s not separated into neighborhoods. The area is great for some unique outdoor adventures with your pup. Marshall Gold State Historic Park welcomes dogs on their leashes on several of its trails. Western Gateway Dog Park is a fenced-in, 2-acre park within the Western Gateway Park. It features convenient doggie bags for waste and shady spots for owners. You can also bring your leashed dog to the main park to walk the trails or splash in the creek.
