North Main Street

Pumpkinvine Nature Trail, which starts out in Middlebury, Indiana, is a 3-mile, crushed-stone surface trail, and was once a popular passenger and mail service route at the turn of the 20th century. Because of its numerous curves and turns, the railroad received its “pumpkin vine” nickname. As you make your way along this incredibly scenic trail, you might get a glimpse back in time and catch sight of one of Indiana’s large Amish communities as they tend fields with horse-drawn plows or ride in their buggies. The trail also brings you past farms with horses, rustic barns, and a thick forest of maple and oak trees where more than 30 species of wildflowers bloom in the spring.

Shanklin Millrace

Millrace Trail is a 2.75-mile crushed-stone surface trail in Goshen, IN. The trail features a lake and is rated as moderate, so it should be perfect for a leisurely walk with your pooch. The Millrace Trail takes you through wooded parkland that is located on the west side of downtown Goshen, which is a town well worth walking in itself, with its historical buildings and nice shops. This lovely, scenic trail follows the hydraulic canal and, along the way, you'll cross several bridges over the canal. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on a leash.

Syracuse Beach

The beautiful Lakeview Park in Syracuse offers breathtaking views of Syracuse Lake. Take the doggie for a walk along the edge of Syracuse Lake, and then head to Syracuse Beach itself. A favorite with the locals, the beach is a great spot for a dip on a hot summer's day. If you're there on a Saturday between May and October, then wander a little further down the edge of Syracuse Lake and you and the pooch can meander around the Syracuse Artisan and Farmer's Market, with beautiful displays of locally grown produce, flowers, baked goods and artisan items.

Syracuse Lake

Another beautiful waterfront spot for a ramble with your dog is Henry Ward Park, named for one of the co-founders of Syracuse. This park, shaded by canopy trees, has a boardwalk walkway the runs alongside a channel leading to Syracuse Lake. It is a popular fishing spot so you’re sure to see lots of anglers taking part in one of the many bass fishing tournaments that take place there. As well as the boardwalk, the park also has a children’s playground in case you want to take the family along, as well as lots of picnic tables and benches and an open-air pavilion.

South Harkless Drive

If you’re looking for a bite to eat and maybe a beverage, The Frog Tavern in Syracuse is a great dog-friendly spot. Referring to themselves, tongue-in-cheek, as “An institution … of sorts,” this is a popular local eatery. The Frog Tavern's menu is comprised of appetizers, sandwiches, salads, pizzas, as well as lots of local delicacies. You can chow down on frog legs and battered white cheddar cheese curds, as well as cod tenders, chicken fingers, breaded shrimp, and more. Even better, you won’t be short of somewhere to sit with your pooch, as the tavern has no less than fifteen dog-friendly outdoor tables.
