A 15-mile drive northwest of Chelsea will take you to northern-central Hoover, Alabama and the Loch Haven Dog Park. This exceptional off-leash park features one area for dogs who weigh less than 35 pounds, as well as a space for bigger dogs. Each section has a water station for dogs, as well as waste disposal supplies and seating. There is also a 0.4-mile walking path and an obstacle course where your dog can show off for his friends! Loch Haven Dog Park is free to use, and in addition to the 17 acres of space for your dog to run around in, there's also a creek surrounding the off-leash areas so your dog can take a dip.

Alabaster is another city in Shelby County, and it's also a suburb of southern Birmingham. South Alabaster is home to the Beneful Alabaster Dream Dog Park, and it's just 20 miles from Chelsea. This special dog park was built in 2012 after a Shelby County resident won a contest with Beneful that awarded the winner with a $500,000 dog park in an area of their choosing. The off-leash park has a section for dogs 35 pounds and over, as well as an area for smaller dogs. There is also a double-gated entry system, synthetic turf, waste disposal supplies, water, and a splash pad for pups.

Red Mountain

Red Mountain

The southwestern corner of Birmingham, Alabama is about 20 miles from Chelsea, and this area is also home to Red Mountain Park. This 1,500-acre park includes 15 miles of walking trails as well as a six-acre off-leash park! Remy's Dog Park at Red Mountain Park has a section for small, senior, or shy dogs, and a separate large dog section that is half wooded, and half open field. The park also has drinking water for dogs, shaded areas, seating, and waste disposal supplies. Your dog can also join you on the 15 miles of trails in Red Mountain Park, but they must be on a leash for that.

Northern-central Fultondale, Alabama is about a 25-mile drive from Chelsea. This area is where you'll find the Black Creek Bark Park, and you and your dog are sure to both fall in love with it! This off-leash park is part of Black Creek Park, and it features sections for big and small dogs. It also has a reputation for being well-maintained and frequented by friendly visitors! Black Creek Bark Park has a double-gated entry system as an added safety measure, and it also features water fountains for humans and dogs. There is a variety of seating throughout the park, as well as waste disposal supplies. Your dog can also join you in other areas of Black Creek Park, including the walking trail, as long as they're wearing their leash.
Moss Rock Preserve

Moss Rock Preserve

When you're seeking a great place to hike with your dog near Chelsea, look no further than Moss Rock Preserve in western Hoover. It's less than a 20-mile drive from Chelsea, and Moss Rock Preserve features 350 acres of land to explore, as well as nearly 12 miles of trails to trek with your dog on a leash. During your hike, you and your dog are likely to come across several unique plant and wildlife species. Moss Rock Preserve is also home to a variant of Little River Canyon Sandstone Glade that is only known to occur in 35 places in the world.
