USAF Academy

It’s easy to see why the Stanley Canyon Trail is so pup-ular. This four mile round trip trail leads to a serene mountain reservoir that’s tucked away in the Rampart Range. Follow the trail through a steep canyon, past streams and waterfalls, up to a panoramic view of the Colorado Springs area. Since the trailhead is on the Academy’s property, you will need to pass security to get access. If you want to continue your hike past Stanley Reservoir, hop on the Farish Trail and venture deeper into the Pike National Forest. Remember to bring plenty of water for both you and your furry companion.

Vindicator Dr/ Rockrimmon Blvd

If your pup is ready to hit the trails, grab her leash and head over to Colorado Springs and visit Ute Valley Park. A favorite spot for local canines, this massive park has trails for all abilities. Follow one of the designated paths, or create your own route. While exploring the area with your pooch, you’ll come across sandstone cliffs, mesas, rocky ridges, and a wide variety of plant life. You’ll also see mountain bikers, runners, and fellow dog walkers, so make sure your pup stays on leash. Facilities are limited, so make sure your pack plenty of water for both you and your furry friend.

Sunset Creek

Escape the hum drum of everyday life with a hike in Pulpit Rock Park. This Colorado Springs park may be surrounded by residential communities, but you’ll feel miles away while hiking through the sandstone terrain. Several trails weave throughout the park, some are clearly marked while others are just spurt trails. The main four mile loop will get you and your pup to the top, then back to the parking lot. Once you make it to the summit of Pulpit Rock, enjoy spectacular vistas of Colorado Springs and Pike’s Peak. Since there are rattlesnakes in the area, make sure your pup sticks to the path.

Black Forest

Black Forest Park is just minutes 20 minutes east of USAF Academy in Colorado Springs. This beautiful park is a great place to spend some quality time with your canine companion. Enjoy views of the Front Range and Pike’s Peak as you hike one of the three main loops with you dog. Connect the loops for a four mile hike. Various spur trails are available if you want to add mileage to your walk. The park also features sport courts, a playground, picnic facilities, and plenty of majestic Ponderosa Pines. Pack a sandwich, a couple biscuits for your pooch, and some water and stay for lunch.

Monument Town Center

Next time your dog needs a walk, grab her leash and head over to Fox Run Regional Park. Located in Monument, this park is just 15 minutes from USAF Academy. Your pup will love trotting along the four miles of trails that weave in and around the park’s rolling hills She’ll get a great workout while also breathing in the fragrance of Ponderosa Pines and enjoying views of Pike’s Peak. If she wants to run free, head over to the park’s off leash area. Five acres of open grassy fields give your pup plenty of room to dart and dash around. She’ll definitely have a doggone great time!
