City Center Lake Wales
Less than ten miles from Babson Park is the well-known John C. "Doc" Haromy Dog Park in Lake Wales, where tourists and residents bring their dogs to run and play all day. At this dog park, you will find a fenced-in playground that features separate areas for large and small dogs. Don't worry about the heat -- there is plenty of shade for you and Fido! Sit and relax on one of the benches, get up and play Frisbee and fetch, or plan a picnic meal for the two of you. There is easy access to fresh drinking water, but be sure to bring clean-up bags!

Bob's Landing
While Babson Park may be small, it is home to the second-largest lake in Polk County, Crooked Lake, located in the park of Crooked Lake Prairie. You and Fido will enjoy hiking, fishing, and exploring nature on this 525-acre lake property. While you are exploring, you will find two trails you can choose from. The first trail takes you to the scenic area of Crooked Lake, and the other will take you into the scrubs. You can't beat the natural beauty either way, but you should be extra alert in the scrubs because you will need to keep Fido away from the prickly pear cactus! Bring lots of water and plan a picnic on one of their picnic areas.

Crooked Lake
As large as Crooked Lake is, there is actually another way to see it in a totally new perspective when you visit Crooked Lake Sandhill. This is a completely different park where you can find a self-guided trail that will lead you through the endangered sandhill ecosystem. Whereas Crooked Lake Prairie gives you the flat, straight access to the lake, Crooked Lake Sandhill provides the bird's eye view, taking you and Fido as far as 215 feet above sea level to enjoy the lake, and then down into the depression of an old sinkhole. There are picnic tables, but no other amenities, so plan ahead and bring lots of water for you both!12
Hickory Lake
Less than seven miles south of Babson Park is the city of Frostproof, home of Hickory Lake Estates. When you are ready to move beyond Babson Park, be sure to take Fido and visit the 57-acre Lake Wales Ancient Scrub System. Florida's natural ecosystem of open scrub is abundant here. Take a stroll along one of the multiple short loop trails, where you and Fido can enjoy the unique plants and animals that live here, many of which are threatened or endangered! The amenities are sparse here, with only picnic shelters available, so be sure to bring lots of water and maybe pack a picnic for you both!0
Lake Wales Ridge
Digging into the history of Florida just a bit, you will find that Babson Park, Frostproof, and Lake Wales are situated on the Lake Wales Ridge, a natural geographical wonder of the world. You and Fido can marvel at the Lake Wales Ridge State Forest in Frostproof, where the unique ecosystems can be found in four different tracts. If you are planning on visiting, take a few minutes ahead of time to review Florida's State Forest Trailwalker Program Guide, as some of the entrances are miles down the road. Fido and friends are welcome, as long as they are leashed, so fire up the grill, have a picnic, and take a night to camp, hike, paddle boat, and fish while you are here!Frequently asked questions
