As you make your way to Maui's western shore, the city of Kihei will strike you as a booming town with plenty of impressive resorts, hotels, shops, and restaurants. Traveling to Kehei with your dog is a breeze, with tons of dog-friendly restaurants with outdoor seating. Visitors who enjoy swimming, diving, snorkeling, and enjoying the bright sun and sand flock to Kehei throughout the year.
One impressive attraction found in Kihei is the Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary, where spotting one of these magnificent creatures is very likely. You can head out on guided tours on land and on the sea, with plenty of options for your dog as well. The volcanoes Haleakala and Puu Kukui attract thousands of visitors looking to get a glimpse at their natural beauty, and there are pup-friendly trails throughout the parks that surround them as well.
There are six animal hospitals in Kihei where you will find excellent compassionate care for your canine companion no matter what curve balls your vacation throws your way. There are four beaches along the shores of Kehei where you can soak up some sun. Mai Poina Beach Park is just one of these pupperific beaches where you and your dog can get some sand between your paws all afternoon!
Maalaea is an oceanside town with plenty of local charm and conveniences for tourists. You can take your dog for a walk around the resorts that rest on the beaches here, just a short drive to the north of Kehei. Cafe del Vino is a dog-friendly restaurant in Maalaea where you can enjoy a classy dinner with your pup on their scenic outdoor terrace. You will find Haycraft Park is a puptastic place to take your dog for an after-dinner stroll to walk off some of those calories and take in the beauty of the ocean in front of you.
North Kihei is a beach and resort area where you will find lots of room to run and walk the days away while rejuvenating your mind and spending quality time with your dog. You can take your dog to the Kenolio Park for a game of fetch or to lay out a blanket and relax in the grass with a good book and your cuddly pup. Hale Piilani Park is another great outdoor option if you need some exercise and fresh air. You will need your leash and plenty of waste bags to keep the park neat and clean and to keep your dog comfortable on busier days.
Central Kihei is home to parks and plenty of dog-friendly restaurants. If you are looking for a place to start your day, Kalepolepo Beach Park is a pupperific spot for a morning walk or a picnic. Waipuilani Park is another puptastic option for you and your dog if you are looking for a spot for a long walk with plenty of ocean scenery to enjoy together. Nalu's South Shore Grill is a pupular dining destination for those looking for a wonderful savory spot to visit with their dog. The dog-friendly restaurant is open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and serves a variety of local fusion foods to satisfy any craving!
South Kihei is another dog-friendly neighborhood where you will find tons of parks and green spaces, as well as restaurants where you can enjoy a delicious meal outdoors with your smiling canine companion. Kihei Regional Park defines this neighborhood with a large field with trees and ferns for shade from the island sun. You will need your leash and waste bags with you, as well as some water and treats to keep you both going strong all day long. Shaka Sandwich and Pizza is just one of many dog-friendly eateries with covered outdoor patio seating where you and your pooch can enjoy a doggie dinner date!
Central Waikapu is a short twenty-minute drive from the center of Kihei. It is worth visiting if you are looking to explore the surrounding towns or need a break from your resort for an afternoon. There is a humane society in this area if you are looking for a dog-friendly place to volunteer some of your time. The Waikapu Community Center and Park is also a lovely place for you to take your pup on a walk or for an impromptu game of fetch with some of her favorite tennis balls. Just don't forget your leash and your waste bags!
