Dog Areas in Genoa

2 Groomers

Genoa, Illinois is a quiet little community that loves its kids and its pets. There is always something for you to see and do in the area. The township was founded right after the Revolutionary War. You can learn more about the town's history through the architecture and historical markers. In 1944, Genoa set up the Parks District, which can found in the heart of the city. You and your dog can take advantage of the walking and biking trails here. There are also many other fun activities for your family to enjoy. The children’s center is a great place to let your kids get creative while you and your dog go for a walk.

About thirty miles away, you can find Village of Machesney Park. It has a portion of the Rails-to-Trails network called Alpine Road Trail. The Alpine Road Trail is a paved trail that will lead you to the outskirts of Genoa. This path will take you through the town as well as some beautiful natural areas.

If you're looking for some off-leash fun, or a place to chow down with your hound, you'll need to travel outside Genoa. Don't fret just yet, though; dog-friendly fun is just a bone's throw away from Genoa!

If you enjoy flowers and nature, chances are your dog won’t mind them either, so consider making the 30-minute trip to South Rockford. Rockford is home to Klehm Arboretum and Botanic Garden, a former nursery that you can now explore with your dog. There are beautiful plants to see and several walking paths running throughout the gardens, so make sure to bring a camera along with you to snap some pictures. Fido is required to be on a leash at all times, and you’re responsible for cleaning up after him; waste disposal bags aren’t provided.

Dekalb, located about 15 minutes south of Genoa, is home to Katz Dog Park – but don’t let the name fool you; you probably don’t want to bring your cat here. This large, off-leash dog park has plenty of room for your dog to run around and get in his daily exercise, all while having fun with you and his new friends. There are separate sections for large and small dogs. Katz Dog Park also has water fountains for your pup to stay cool, and there’s even plenty of seating for dog parents. Located in East Rockford, about 25 minutes from Genoa, is Elliot Dog Park, where your pup is sure to have a pawesome time! This off-leash dog park has two separate areas, one for larger dogs and another for smaller dogs, but don’t let that fool you; there’s still plenty of room for your dog to run around and burn off some pent-up energy. There’s also seating for dog parents to take a breather while their pooch plays. It can get quite muddy after it rains, so keep that in mind.
