Howe State Park
If you’re looking for a great place to hike with your dog, check out Howe State Park/Spencer State Forest. This stunning 965-acre recreation area welcomes dogs on-leash, and it has hiking trails you can explore with your dog. These trails will take you around the scenic Howe Pond and by a lovely waterfall. They’ll also take you through scenic forest and along the Cranberry River. If you want to have a picnic with your dog, there are picnic tables next to Howe Pond. Bring plenty of water and doggy waste bags with you, and have a furtastic time hiking here!

Vernon Hill
Worchester’s Vernon Hill neighborhood is home to the pawsitively amazing Vernon Hill Dog Park. Located 12 miles from Spencer, this dog park has separate areas for big and small dogs to play in. Both areas have large, grassy fields where your dog can play and make new friends. There are doggy bags available, but be sure to bring water with you for your dog. If you’re hungry after playing at the dog park, check out Palma’s Bakery. Sit at one of their four dog-friendly outdoor tables, and enjoy hot and cold sandwiches, salads, soup, freshly baked pastries, and delicious coffee drinks.

Purgatory Road
Looking for another fun place to go for an on-leash hike with your dog? Check out Purgatory Chasm, a beautiful park that’s located 22 miles from Spencer. This park has a total of two miles of trails you can explore with your dog. One of the most popular trails in the park is the Chasm Loop Trail. This trail takes you along the edge of Purgatory Chasm, and it passes tons of unique rock formations, including Devil’s Coffin, Lover’s Leap, and Devil’s Corncrib. You can also check out the Old Purgatory Trail, a small loop trail that takes you through the forest. You and your dog will both have a great time seeing all the sights in this reservation!

This dog park is 10 miles from Spencer, and it has separate areas for large and small dogs to play in. Both areas are double-gated, keeping your dog secure while they play, and doggy bags are available for your pup. Bring water for your dog with you, and have fun playing here! Want to get a bite to eat after the dog park? Check out Nancy Chang Restaurant, an Asian eatery that has tons of options for vegan and gluten-free customers. This restaurant welcomes dogs at their outdoor tables.

Prospect Street
This Leominster neighborhood is home to Prospect Park, a picturesque park where you can go for on-leash walks with your dog. Located 30 miles from Spencer, this park has a long hiking trail that loops through the whole park. The trail takes you through peaceful forest, and it passes a beautiful pond, creeks and streams, and picturesque bridges. Bring doggy bags and water, and have a good time hiking here. If all that hiking makes you hungry, head over to Panera Bread with your dog. Sit at one of their dog-friendly outdoor tables, and enjoy seasonal salads, soups, and sandwiches.
