Sturbridge
Wells State Park is a pawtastic place for you and your dog in the town of Sturbridge, northeast of Holland. These 1,400 acres of forest offer amenities which include a nature center with restrooms, camping sites, and canoeing and fishing spots on Walker Pond. Hike with your pup on its extensive 10 miles of trails. When hunger strikes, try out one of Sturbridge's dog friendly restaurants, such as B.T.’s Smokehouse or Old Sturbridge Pizza’s outdoor patio dining for a bite, or Rapscallion Brewery for a cool drink.

Brimfield
To the north of Holland, you will find the small, rural town of Brimfield. Within the area’s forested Brimfield State Park, there is a perfect dog-friendly area for outdoor summer and winter fun. The Dean Pond Recreation Area offers summer swimming on its 100 feet of beach, a popular fishing area, picnic tables, and over 20 miles of trails for you and Rover to hike, bike, and cross-country ski. On-leash dogs are welcome everywhere. Restrooms and water are provided. Dine on some gourmet pizza afterwards at Brimfield House of Pizza, where you and Fifi can relax at their 2 outdoor patio tables!

Monson
The town of Monson, northwest of Holland, is home to the Flynt Quarry, which covers 165 acres with walking trails that connect the old railroad and trolley line systems. Peaked Mountain offers 3.5 miles of hiking on its former working-forest’s summit with panoramic views of the Green Mountains. Or take the easy 1-mile loop around Luden pond. Next, try Conant Brook Dam for a more exhilarating day for your pup – hike, fish, or strap on some snow shoes for some winter fun! Be sure to pack food, water and clean-up bags while visiting any of the town’s parks.

Fiskdale
Fiskdale is a town north of Holland offering dog-friendly East Brimfield Lake. Part of the East Brimfield Reservoir, it is made up of fishing and boating opportunities, with a 6-mile canoeing trail from the lake along the Quinebaug River. The lake is surrounded by forested wetlands and rolling hills. Take a stroll with your fur-iendly pup along the East Brimfield Lake Nature Trail. There is a separate marked 50-minute trail for the more adventurous, or the shorter 20-minute trail for the slower nature lovers! How about packing a picnic lunch with water for you both to share lakeside?

Old Sturbridge Village/ Robinson Crusoe Camp
Old Sturbridge Village is a scenic tourist area in the town of Sturbridge. The village is just a few minutes’ drive from Holland, and is an amazing place to see life as it was in New England from the 1790’s to the 1830’s. Dedicated to preserving American history, colonial life is recreated daily. The village covers 230 acres and is the largest living museum in all of New England. Dogs are allowed in Old Sturbridge Village to its members on ‘dog days’ scheduled during the year. There are special exhibitions located throughout, and food vendors are available during these dog-friendly days.
