The 2.1 mile portion that cuts through Auburn Hills is ideal for walking or jogging. Your pal can strut her stuff down the recycled asphalt trail. While you’re in the area, drop by Sweets for an afternoon refreshment. Family owned and operated, this bakery serves delicious treats as well as soups, sandwiches and coffee. Your four legged companion can sit with you at one of the outside tables.

Nothing beats a walk in the woods, so grab your pooch and head over to the Hawk Woods Nature Center. This 80 acre patch of nature is a great place to escape the noise of the city. Your pup can breathe in some fresh air as you make your way around the interpretive trail system. Follow the Marsh Boardwalk Trail to get an up close look at the marshland ecosystem. A small deck with benches and picnic tables is the perfect spot to stop and soak in the surroundings. Pond Trail takes you past Hawk Woods Pond, while the Crawford Cut runs near a forest research site. Your furry friend will have a doggone great time!

Sitting right on the banks of the Clinton River, this park features a canoe launch, playground, and picnic facilities. Not only does this park have sports courts, a playground, and open spaces, it also has a network of trails. Your pooch will love getting his exercise at this pawsome park.

Located in Lake Orion, this recreation area is less than 10 minutes north of Auburn Hills, and spreads over 4,500 acres of rugged terrain to provide hours of exploring. This place can be enjoyed all year round with activities like boating, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, and cross country skiing. With your pooch by your side, venture into the network of trails. Since they range in length and difficulty, you’re sure to find one that’s perfect for your pup. Remember to bring enough water to keep your four legged hiking buddy well hydrated.

When pups in Auburn Hills need to let loose, they head over to Orion Oaks Dog Park. This 24 acre off leash area is a dog’s dream come true. It’s located inside of Orion Oaks County Park in Lake Orion. Your pooch will have more than enough room to run free and play with his new furry friends. If he feels like going for a swim, he can paddle around Lake Sixteen, a lake just for four legged swimmers. There are a couple trails for exploring, as well as a small dog area. Drinking stations are also available, so remind your pup to take a water break every once in a while.
