I have always been an animal lover and over the years I have owned many different pets. I currently have one 6 year old guinea pig named Riza Lin, an 11 month old kitten named Sammy and also an 11 month old Jack Russell/Retriever Mix named Sophie. When I was in High School I use to volunteer at The Humane Society of West Michigan. I worked mostly with the cats but did some dog walking. I had to leave there but have always wanted to go back and finish my dog walking. I have also walked family and friends dogs as well and I enjoy anytime I can spend with animals. This 21-acre dog park has separate fenced-in small and large dog areas. Both areas are filled with grass and have tons of space for your dog to run around and play. There’s also another fenced-in area that has tree-filled paths your pup can walk on off-leash. Plus, there are numerous water fountains for your dog, and there are benches and picnic tables for owners to sit at while their dog is playing. You and your dog will always have a good time here!

Westside Connection is home to another fun off-leash area: Covell Dog Park. This dog park is 12 miles from Hudsonville, and it features a large, fenced-in field. In summer, the park has a plastic kiddie pool your dog can splash around in, and there’s also a hose you can use to fill your pup’s water bowl. Bring some tennis balls or a Frisbee, and spend the day playing with your dog in this park. After the park, treat your dog to lunch at Mitten Brewing Co. Grand Rapids’ Midtown neighborhood has another furtastic dog park, Hillcrest Dog Park. This park is 16 miles from Hudsonville, and it has separate large and small dog areas. Both areas are filled with trees, keeping them shady and cool in the summer. There’s also water available in the summer — if you’re going to the park in winter, be sure to bring some water with you. As your dog plays in Hillcrest’s large fields, you can sit and watch on a shady bench. If playing at the dog park makes you and your hound hungry, head over to Bagel Beanery. This bagel shop has dog-friendly outdoor tables, and they serve a wide variety of bagels, sandwiches, and omelets.
