Dog Walking in Mt Clemens
Mount Clemens in Macomb County has a lot
to offer the travelling pup, with many beautiful recreation areas nearby and river
walks to enjoy. Surrounded on three sides by Clinton Township, and on the
eastern border by Harrison Township, Mount Clemens covers just 4.2 square miles, but is certainly worth stopping to explore. There is one animal
hospital in town, and several vets in surrounding Clinton Township, so you are
assured your pup will be well looked after should he run into any trouble.
The centrepiece to the town for visiting pups
is the Behnke Memorial Dog Park. This free park has a fenced area where dogs
can run around off the lead and socialise, burn off some energy, and have a
great play. There are some communal toys available and tires for pups to
practice their agility skills on, plus running water and waste bags provided.
While you are out and about in Mount Clemens, take a walk along the Clinton River
and up into the shopping district, where you will find the Orleans Billiards Café
for a pet-friendly bite to eat. There is a variety of hearty fare on the menu
here, including American favorites such as pizzas, burgers, salads and
sandwiches, or you may like to go for something with Mexican flare, such as
nachos.
A small town with lots to see and do, you and your dog will have a great
time in Mount Clemens.

The George George Memorial Park in Clinton Township is 30 acres of green space where you can enjoy an on-lead walk with your pup along the many paved paths. The fountain plaza area offers lovely views, with bench seating around the centrepiece for quiet reflection or a little rest together. The well-maintained gardens and adjacent river create beautiful scenery, and the expanse of lush grassed areas will leave you feeling calm, refreshed and ready to take on the rest of your day. If you have juniors with you, they will love hanging out at the playground or running around in the open space. Seasonal restrooms and water fountains are available here, but bring your food, a doggie drinking bowl and waste bags.

Just a short distance west of Mount Clemens in Clinton Township are two parks along the Clinton River that are definitely worth a visit with your dog. Canal Park is just over 16 acres and beautifully wooded, providing a lovely place to escape suburbia for a while. The main walking trail runs through the woodlands and south along the creek to the other park, Budd Park. This green space is nearly 46 acres, and not only has more walking trails, but amenities including restrooms and picnic pavilions available for rent. You will need to bring your waste bags and water here, and keep pup on a lead while you enjoy getting out and about amongst the trees.

Sometimes a pup just needs to run free, and the Clinton Township Dog Park in neighbouring Clinton Township is the perfect place. The 1.5-acre dog park is fenced to keep pooches safe and has a variety of agility equipment and toys to add to the fun, plus water fountains for both dogs and humans. To access this park, you need to fill out a registration through Macomb County Recreation (via the Charter Township of Clinton website) and pay a small fee, but your pup is sure to have a ball here and want to visit again and again! When he is ready to go back on the lead, take a walk together along the many paved paths just outside the dog park.

Fancy a spot of shopping, but don’t want to leave your four-legged friend behind? The Mall at Partridge
Creek in Clinton Township is your answer! This open-air shopping centre
welcomes leashed dogs of all sizes and even provides several doggie comfort
stations equipped with fresh water and waste bags. The mall is seasonally
decorated and there is often events on that your dog will love checking out
with you, such as live music or movies. There are plenty of merchants in the
streets, and some fixed indoor shops even allow pets to come in. Most
restaurants in the mall are dog-friendly, such as Auntie Anne's Pretzels for some freshly baked pastries. Max and Erma's serve up delicious burgers, steaks and salads and have great deals for kids. For some contemporary fare, try Nodstrom Café Bistro for a made-to-order salad or sandwich, topped off with a sweet treat from Swirl Frozen Yogurt.

Less than five miles from Mount Clemens in
Harrison Township is the Lake Saint Clair Metropark. Covering an impressive 770
acres, and taking in a mile of shoreline, this park has something for everyone –
even your furry companion. Take a walk or jog together along one of the many
paved paths and admire views over L’anse Creuse Bay or the lush meadows,
marshland and cottonwood trees. Stop for a packed lunch at one of the many
picnic places, or cook up something tasty on the BBQ’s. If you have little ones
in tow, they will love the playground as well. Water fountains are provided, but
bring a drinking bowl and clean up bags for pup. There is a small entry fee that
goes towards future development and maintenance of the park.
