Dog Walking in St Clair Shores
In an area
originally known by the French name L'anse Creuse, St. Clair Shores is a city in Macomb County,
situated approximately 13 miles northeast of downtown Detroit. There are many parks to check out and places to stop
for a delicious bite, so grab Fido’s lead and head out for a little exploring!
This place loves its pets, and with four animal hospitals and a vet clinic in town,
help is never far away should your beloved buddy feel unwell.
There are lots of little neighbourhood parks in Saint Clair Shores
that cater to a range of activities. Kaufman Park and Gaffke Park have
walkways to take your pup for a stroll. For picnic areas and a playground for
your two-legged pups, there is Frederick Park and Alexander Park. You can’t
visit Saint Clair Shores without checking out the shoreline either! Alexander
Park offers beautiful lakefront views as you sit with your furry friend by your
side, as does Champine Park.
For a pup-friendly meal, try El Charro Restaurant for cuisine with a Mexican
flair, or Ardmore Café or Nautical Deli for something light. Steve’s Back Room
serves up a Mediterranean menu, and you can’t go past Wallys Frozen Custard without stopping for a sweet treat. All of these places welcome dogs at one of their outside tables.
With plenty to see along the lake, and many great places to stop and enjoy a
meal, you and your pup will love visiting Saint Clair Shores.

The Lake St Clair Metropark in the Harrison Township, just 11 miles north of Saint Clair Shores, is a great spot for a day out. Covering a massive 770 acres and a mile of shoreline, this park has it all. If you are up for some exercise, take your leashed pup for a walk or jog around the walking paths, with spectacular views over L’anse Creuse Bay and into lush meadows, marshland and a grove of cottonwood trees. The Metropark is a popular place for a picnic, with all the amenities you need – bathrooms, shelter, barbeques, water and a playground. There is a small fee to enter the park which goes towards future developments and maintenance. You will need to keep your dog on a lead here while you enjoy a lovely family day out with him, and remember to clean up any mess he leaves behind.

Anne Fracassa Memorial Dog Park in nearby Warren is another lovely doggy playground that your pup will love to visit. The fenced dog park has running water, agility equipment and toys, as well as benches for you to sit at while you watch him play. Before making the trip here, you will need to organise a pass from the Warren Parks and Recreation Office or apply online, but the fee is very reasonable. If you are looking for a dog-friendly place to eat after your play, head to Limelight Sports Grill and Bar. Your pooch is welcome to join you at one of the outside tables during fine weather.

Balduck Park in nearby Grosse Point is a popular place
for pooches and their owners to get some fresh air and stretch their legs.
Within the park is a fenced area designated for puppy off-leash fun, where your
dog will love the chance to tear around and play with some new four-legged pals.
Once he has had a play, pop him back on the lead and explore the scenic wooded
trail together, before settling down on the grass or at the picnic tables for a
bite to eat. At the park there are amenities such as restrooms, shade
structures and a playground.

Brys Park in Saint Clair Shores has a dog park known as Statler Maloof Bark Park, where your pup will love the chance to play off the lead in one of the two safe fenced areas. You will need to purchase a license from the Saint Clair Shores Civic Arena to visit here, so come prepared with your dog’s veterinary papers. There are picnic tables and plenty of shady trees to relax at while your pup plays, as well as water, some toys and waste bags provided on-site. Brys Park itself has walking trails where you can take your dog for a walk once he is ready to go back on the lead.

Veterans Memorial Park is one of the best parks in Saint Clair Shores, with lakefront views, plenty of space to play, picnic areas, restroom facilities and a paved walking path to take an on-lead wander around. Saint Clair Shores Park (Wahby Park) is another great little green space for a walk with your dog, a play together on the grass, or a family day out. There are picnic tables, barbeque facilities, a playground, restrooms and pavilions. Shaded walking paths run through the park and over a pond, making for a lovely way to get some on-lead exercise together.
