Populated by many Polish and German immigrants, the town of Hamtramck is surrounded by the large city of Detroit. Families who enjoy cultural diversity will love spending time in town walking with their pups and visiting stores and boutiques. When your pooch needs medical care, there is one veterinarian clinic in town for both routine appointments and emergencies.

If you are strolling through town with Fido, be sure to check out Pope Park where you will see a statue commemorating Pope John Paul’s visit to the area in 1987. There is a grassy area around the statue where your pup can play and get some exercise.

Another option to walk some laps with your pooch is the Zussman or Winfield Park. This well-maintained area is beautifully decorated at Christmas time, and features shade trees, paved walkways, and benches where you can relax and watch the people go by.

There are two pup-friendly restaurants in town where you can sit with Fido and enjoy a meal. Stop by Café 1923, an urban coffee shop with yummy treats, or plan dinner at the Polish Village Café where you will be served by friendly waitstaff at the outdoor seating.

When you need a break from the busy city of Detroit, spending some time in the peaceful town of Hamtramck is a perfect getaway. You can explore the local parks and historic sites or just let the kids have some fun on the playground or ball fields.
