The 4,000-acre Island Lake park has a terrain of wooded area with pockets of open meadows punctuating the land. There are tons of recreational activities to do with Fido, like fishing, hiking, and boating. If you want to stay in the neighborhood, you can always walk over to Coleman Park, which has the same amenities on a smaller scale. Of course, you can camp here, but the park is also great for a game of fetch!

Nichwagh Estates

Does your dog love living in Michigan for the lakes? Michigan actually comes from a Native American word that translates to "large water." That's what Fido's been trying to tell you with all the barking! In the Nichwagh neighborhood, you can walk along the banks of Nichwagh Lake — a great place to fish with Fido! The lake flows its way in amorphous streams north of 9 Mile Road. The best time to fish is in the fall, when the lake is less swampy due to algae blooms. Fido will be going "mutts" to jump in for a swim!

Forrest Ridge

Does your dog love to wake you up in the morning for his walk? You'll need a cup of coffee first! In the Forrest Ridge neighborhood, you can head over to Java House Cafe for freshly roasted coffee and some morning sweets! At the Java House, you'll find tons of specialty drinks, like different flavors of the South Lyon Sports Latte. The coffee shop also serves deli sandwiches and fresh-baked muffins, scones, and bagels. Fido is more than welcome to join you while you enjoy your coffee. That'll give you the energy to hit the street for a walk!

Hidden Creek

What's your pupper's favorite pastime? If he loves to join you for hikes through beautiful terrain so he can sniff each and every tree, the Hidden Creek neighborhood is the spot for you two! Head south in Hidden Creek to find the Huron Valley Trail System. This 12.2-mile trail system winds its way across Oakland County with plenty to see on the way. The Pontiac Trail runs through South Lyon and begins in Lyon Oaks Park. The entire trail system is refurbished trails that once hosted railroads — a vestige of the pioneer times. Fido will love hiking here to get back in touch with his ancestral past!

Does your dog like to join you for a meal at the locals' spot? If you live in Salem Farms Estates, you and your dog can head to the Lyon Grill. The experience here is a local favorite! Your dog can join you in the outside seating area, where a bunch of local pups come to hang out with their owners. The Lyon Grill is definitely the place to get a steak, like a New York Strip or Filet Mignon.
