You and your pup can walk around the grassy fields while the kids have a good time on the playground. Fido will also enjoy the Petal Relay-Willie Hinton Park near S. George St. With 12.5 acres of open space and walking trails, your pooch can have a snifftastic time in the grass while you relax on a bench and chat with friends.

South Petal

Pups go crazy with excitement when visiting the Petal Dog Park located on Dawson Cut Off Road. With separate spaces for large and small pups, Fido can run off-leash, and the park offers lighting, even at night. You can relax on a bench and chat with friends while the pups. Be sure to bring your own water bottles and doggie waste bags and clean up after your pooch. After spending time at the park, head over to Keg & Barrel and enjoy a drink and some pub food while Fido relaxes under the outdoor tables.

Hattiesburg City Center

Located along the Leaf River, Chain Park in the bordering town of Hattiesburg covers 37-acres of space with lighted walking paths perfect for strolling with your pup day or night. While walking along the path, you can admire the gardens and plants or relax at one of the picnic pavilions. Kids will love spending time at the playground, and you and your pup can walk laps and stretch your legs. The park also offers convenient restrooms, but you will need to bring your own doggie waste bags. Plan to spend an afternoon with your canine companion and friends enjoying the great outdoors.

U of Southern Mississippi/ W 7th Street

Traveling just 5 miles from Petal to Hattiesburg brings you to the Longleaf Trace, a Rails to Trails hiking, biking, and equestrian path. The one end of the trail begins at the University of Southern Mississippi, passes through the small towns of Sumrall, Bassfield, Carson, and ends 41 miles north in Prentiss. You can hike the nature trails along the former rail lines through natural areas and farmland for quite a while! On the way home, stop by Glory Bound Gyro Co serving Mediterranean-style cuisine where you and your pooch are welcome on the outdoor patio.
