South Ogallala

South Ogallala

Families who travel along Interstate 80 will love the convenience of TA Ogallala off Exit 126. This well-stocked gas station features a Travel Store and a perfect place to take your pooch for a walk and stretch his legs. After a long ride in the car or a day hanging out at the house, take Fido for a stroll around the area. There are doggie waste bags provided and the Travel Store carries a variety of pet care products. Another pooch-friendly destination is Sleepy Sunflower RV Park. The facilities are kept clean and there is plenty of open space for pups to run. There is a small off-leash area where pups can play and the whole family will enjoy the peace and quiet. The Nature Park is also located nearby, and offers primitive trails where Fido can get in a nice walk, or just explore.

Families often enjoy camping at the Lake Ogallala SRA Campground north of town.  Whether you live close to Ogallala or you are traveling from out of town, the campground offers scenic views of the state park. You can bring Fido to the park, but you need to keep him on a leash and clean up after him.  If you are staying on the western portion of the lake, the Lake McConaughy SRA Campground is another option for you and Fido. You will need to keep your pup on a leash when walking around admiring the wildlife. If you and your pooch are not into camping, Rodeway Inn is located nearby, and welcomes up to two pups for an additional fee. You can also check out the Comfort Inn where you can reserve a pup-friendly room in advance.

Lake McConaughy Park

Lake McConaughy Park

The Lake McConaughy State Recreation area is a popular destination for pups and their families. This huge lake offers a variety of water sports in addition to a great place to fish or swim, and your pup is welcome on the beach as long as you clean up. The park covers more than 40,000 acres, and you can stroll with your pooch along the shore of the water and admire the views and plants. If your pup loves to get his feet wet, throw a ball into the lake and let him retrieve. Just be sure to bring your own doggie waste bags, and keep your pup on a leash when spending time near other people.

North Ogallala

North Ogallala

Just north of the center of town, the Western Diamonds Sports Complex is located on 10th Street and offers a lighted complex with large open ball fields perfect for walking your pup. When there are no games in session, you can take Fido to the park and throw a ball or go for a hike along the 1.8-mile hiking/biking trail. While spending time at the park, you can also enjoy the picnic shelters, and the kids will love the small playground. If your pup needs some exercise after a long day, this park offers a great place for him to roll around in the grass, or chase a ball or frisbee.

East Ogallala

East Ogallala

On the east part of town, pups can enjoy spending some time at Collister Park on East H Street. Its located near the Rec Center and provides a 2-mile-long paved walking trail where you can stroll with Fido and let the kids ride their bikes. You will also find lighted tennis courts and you and your pooch can relax on a bench and watch a match after walking some laps. The kids will have fun on the playground equipment and your pup can roll around in the grass while the kids play. You will need to bring your own water bottles and doggie waste bags.
