Hillsborough, New Jersey was rated #16 on Money Magazine's 2015 list of best cities to live in America. The reason why is obvious -- it's a close-knit community with plenty of green spaces where residents can rest and relax. There are lots of places for you to walk your dog, enjoy a picnic, and just take in the beauty of the natural scenery. Hillsborough is also in close proximity to some furrific state parks and nature preserves where you and your pooch can explore the day away! You'll even find a few vets in town to keep your pup happy and healthy.

The first place to visit is Sourland Mountain Trails in the Sourland Mountain Preserve. This mountainside trail system encompasses a pond with several trails that vary in distance and difficulty. You have to stay on the trails and you do need a leash, but it is a great way to see the beauty of the mountains with your pup.

If you get hungry, you should stop by Cafe Graziella. It may look like just another store at the strip mall, but this is an amazing little spot with some of the best food in town. They're also dog-friendly, so your pup can join you for a bite! Just don't forget to bring a leash and water bowl.

Otto's Farm Trails is a series of trails that are open to the public. It was once private land that was donated. Along the trails, there are many small streams and wooded areas that Fido will love exploring. It is a barktastic place to get some exercise and a have a little adventure. You'll need to keep your dog leashed at all times on the trails, but she probably won't mind too much. You'll also need to clean up after your dog, so make sure to bring plenty of waste bags. A water bottle is a must, too, since there's no drinking water available along the way.
