Located about seven miles from Atlantic City, Longport offers a quiet atmosphere where Fido and his family can enjoy beautiful water views and close proximity to Ocean City’s boardwalk. When your pup needs a walk, head down Atlantic Avenue and chat with your friends and neighbors along the way while enjoying the breeze off the water.
Pups also enjoy spending time at the Seaview Harbor Marina just across the Longport Bridge. You can stroll with your pooch along the banks of the water while he sniffs all the plants and water animals. The area is family friendly, and you will usually see other pup parents out getting some exercise with their pooch.
Although Longport doesn’t have any veterinarians in the center of town, just two minutes up the road to Margate or Ventnor offers three vet clinics where your pup can receive emergency care and make routine appointments. Jolly Pets Supplies is another great local business where you can purchase food, treats, and accessories for your pampered pooch.
If you enjoy living near the water and spending time with your pup in a relaxing environment, Longport is the perfect destination.
One of the most popular destinations for pups and their parents is the Longport Dog Beach and Malibu Beach Wildlife Management Area. The beach is a great spot to let Fido run around and splash in the water. Sit on one of the benches and chat with friends while the pups play. The dog beach is separated from the road by a small body of water, but there is no fence, so you need to keep an eye on Fido. To keep the beach clean, make sure to bring some doggie waste bags.
Just two minutes north of downtown, Margate City features the popular and well-known landmark Lucy the Elephant. You can walk with Fido along Atlantic Avenue and enjoy the view of the water on your way to Johnny’s Café and Bar. This local pooch-friendly restaurant features salads, sandwiches, and seafood while you relax at the outdoor tables. If you are looking for a great dinner, head over to Miyoko Japanese Cuisine. There are several pup-friendly tables along the sidewalk where you and your pooch can enjoy drinks and dinner with friends. Downbeach Deli and Restaurant is another laid-back café where you and Fido can enjoy breakfast or lunch on the outdoor patio.
Ventnor City is ten minutes north of Longport, and allows pups on the beach from October to May. When spending time with your pup, make sure to bring doggie waste bags to help keep the beach clean. If you want to include your pooch in your dinner plans, head over to Cardinal Bistro. This is a pooch-friendly restaurant where you will enjoy a variety of menu options while relaxing at the outdoor tables. Pups can also enjoy breakfast with their parents at Hannah G’s where you can order waffles, pancakes, and breakfast sandwiches while lounging on the outdoor patio.
If you and your pooch enjoy hiking, head over to Old Town Somers Point and the Bike Path that is part of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy. The path connects to the Linwood path, and there are even doggie waste stations along the way. Your pooch will love walking along the path and sniffing the plants and trees. If you are looking for a place to stay while in the area, Tavern on the Bay Resort allows two pups of any size for an additional fee. You can also check out Economy Motel Inn & Suites where Fido is also welcome to spend the night. A great dinner spot in the area is Buona Vita, where Italian cuisine is offered with a casual atmosphere on the outdoor porch.
When Fido needs some exercise, the Linwood Bike path is a great destination. It’s part of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy and travels over to Somers Point. There are 8.2 miles of paved pathway where you and your pup can easily walk and enjoy the day. Be sure to bring some water bottles so you and Fido can stay hydrated. Although there are several portions of the path that travel through residential areas, doggie waste stations are located throughout where you can dispose of trash and keep the path looking great. Keep your pup on leash throughout the trail areas.
