The small township of Lumberton, New Jersey doesn’t offer much in the way of dog-friendly attractions and activities, and there are no vet clinics in town. Fortunately, the surrounding areas are just minutes away, and offer several veterinary clinics and paw-friendly things for you and your dog to enjoy together.

Rancocas State Park is one place you won’t want to skip out on. It’s not even four miles away from Lumberton, and your leashed dog is welcome to explore several areas of the large park with you. Here, you can go on guided nature walks or make your own adventure on one of several hiking trails, explore the scenic forests, and even go fishing at a fishing access point.

Just over four miles from Lumberton is the Historic Smithville Park in Mount Holly, NJ. The massive park has over 300 acres of outdoor fun for you and your leashed pup. You can walk the hiking trails, visit a butterfly garden, dabble in some fishing, or socialize your dog with the local kids at the playground. The park has quiet picnic spots, too, which make for the perfect lunch opportunity.

Robin’s Nest is in the neighborhood, and it has lunch and dinner in a casually upscale environment, offering several American and French bistro favorites. Your pup is welcome at the outdoor patio seating. For something a little more casual, there’s always Dempster’s Sports Pub and Restaurant, with a dog-friendly patio and a fun, inviting atmosphere. The neighborhood even has a pet hotel for your convenience if you have to go out of town!

Ramblewood in Mount Laurel is slightly over 12 miles from Lumberton. This neighborhood is home to the Laurel Acres Park, a pupular place for photographers and nature lovers, especially those looking to get their fix of the great outdoors. But the park even has its own dog run for your furry pal to enjoy! The off-leash area of the park has separate areas for small and large dogs, doggie waste disposal products, and a part of the lake that your dog can splash around in. Your leashed dog is also welcome to explore some of the other areas of Laurel Acres Park, like scenic walking trails and open, grassy areas, if you clean up after him.

A little over 18 miles from Lumberton is the Delair neighborhood of Pennsauken, NJ. Delair hosts the Bow Wow Park, a dog park with separate small and large areas to keep your pooch safe. Both areas have varied terrain to appease dogs with different preferences. You can also hop on the Merchantville Bike Path for some walking or jogging with your pooch. This is one of the Rails-to-Trails paths that stretches just under a mile, so it’s perfect for a quick hike or mid-day exercise break. If you get hungry, try Macaro’s, a deli featuring Italian favorites, like pasta and sandwiches. You and your dog can eat at the outdoor tables.
