Whippany is an unincorporated community that, along with Cedar Groves, makes up Hanover Township. The community has one veterinary hospital which provides both routine and emergency care, as well as five community parks.  

Black Brook Park has eleven acres of green space. A person and a leashed dog can take a leisurely stroll on a walking path that encircles the perimeter of the park. Looking for more adventure? Bee Meadow Park has over seventy acres of open grassy spaces that welcome leashed dogs. A stocked lake is another popular attraction. Central Park has decorative gazebos and a walking path. Malapardis Park has a stocked pond, numerous picnic sites, and an easy, paved walking path. Monroe Park is another option, although it's a little smaller than the other parks.

In addition, Whippany offers travelers with furry family members a couple of dog-friendly hotels! Extended Stay America, located on Route 10, welcomes up to two dogs of any size for a fee of $25 per dog per night. Red Carpet Inn allows dogs of any size to stay for a fee of $10 per dog per night.

This dog park has a natural terrain of clover and grass. A fully fenced large dog area lets those big fellas rid themselves of their leash. A separately fenced area gives the small dogs their own safe space, too.  The park has water available on-site. A plastic tunnel attracts the more curious noses. Waste baggies are also supplied by the dog park. The park could use a few benches and shade, but the dogs have a blast playing with their canine kind. This dog park requires prior registration and a fee payable to the city.

Benches for the human companions are also scattered inside the enclosures. This dog park does not have water available on-site, but it can readily be obtained in the main park's restrooms. The gravel mulch surface makes this an ideal place to visit even after a rain -- no muddy paws to deal with! Drinking water is available in the park. Pet parents are treated with many shaded benches. Waste stations are amply stocked with waste bags for those necessary clean-ups.

A person and a leashed dog can cap off the trip with a walk along the banks of the scenic Passaic River.
