Eagle Pointe

Less than 10 miles south of Bernalillo is the North Domingo Baca Dog Park, just south of the neighborhood of Eagle Pointe. This beautiful and spacious park has a section for dogs under 30 pounds, as well as a separate section for bigger dogs. North Domingo Baca Dog Park is open every day from 6 AM to 10 PM, and it has lighting for those who visit the park when it's dark out. There is water available at the park, as well as seating, awnings, and trees. The surface of this dog park is wood chips, which makes it easier to clean up after your pet.

Towne Park

Towne Park

Los Altos Park near the eastern Albuquerque neighborhood known as Towne Park is only 20 miles from Bernalillo. This dog park is conveniently located right off of the I-40 highway, so it's a good spot to stop and let your dog stretch his legs when you're traveling. There are big and small dog sections in the park, and it's open every day from 6 AM to 10 PM. This park is lighted for visitors who come very early or late in the day, but it doesn't have a running water source, so be sure to bring your own. There are waste disposal bags available in the park and seating as well.

Huning Castle

Huning Castle

The area of central Albuquerque known as Huning Castle is only 18 miles from Bernalillo. This community is named after Franz Huning, a man who contributed significantly to the development of Albuquerque in the 1800s. On the southern limits of this neighborhood sits the Rio Grande Triangle Dog Park. This dog park has separate big and small dog sections, but small dogs are allowed in the bigger dog section at the owners' discretion. There are a variety of surfaces in the park for dogs to explore, as well as water, seating, and shade. The park is just across the street from a playground with picnic facilities, too.

Wells Park

Wells Park

Only 16 miles and a little more than a 20-minute drive south of Bernalillo is the Coronado Dog Park in the neighborhood of Wells Park in downtown Albuquerque. This spacious dog park consists mostly of wood chips, with some grassy areas, which helps cut down on muddy paws. There is water available at the park, and it's open every day from 6 AM to 10 PM. If you plan to visit once the sun has gone down, please be advised that there is no lighting in this park. There is seating available for humans in the park, and dogs who visit must be six months of age and over.

If you venture to southern Albuquerque with your dog, the two of you can visit the Montessa Dog Park. It takes about half an hour to get here from Bernalillo, and the dog park is in the South 25 Business Park area of town. One of the things that makes this dog park a local favorite is that it showcases the natural New Mexican landscape and your dog will have so much fun exploring it. There is some agility equipment for dogs in the park as well as doggy waste disposal stations, but bring your own water when you visit this park. If you'd like to go on a leashed walk with your dog, there is also a trail outside of the off-leash park.
